Hume Anglican Grammar is a multicampus coeducational Anglican Diocesan School offering education from Prep to Year 12 in the Northern growth corridor of Melbourne.

  • Hume has an open enrolment policy so educates children from many faiths and with a diverse range of backgrounds and abilities.
  • The School aspires to develop young people who are kind creative inquiring socially and emotionally at ease and who strive to achieve their personal best in all their endeavours.
  • In 2025 the School will have 2960 students and employ some 290 staff 195 teaching and 95 nonteaching. The student enrolment at each campus is at Mt Ridley 1448 Donnybrook 1036 and Kalkallo 476.
  • Ultimately at capacity Hume will have 3640 students (Mt Ridley 1456 Donnybrook 1596 and Kalkallo 588) with a corresponding cohort of teaching and general staff totalling 350 across its three campuses with plans for further expansion.
  • As one of Victorias fastest growing schools it is expected to be one of the largest nongovernment schools in the state with plans for further expansion.

About the role:

The School Chaplain will ensure that the caring supportive and vibrant environment in which children grow and learn is maintained and further developed. They are responsible for providing leadership and guidance in all matters relating to the expression of the Christian faith within the School and the pastoral care of all members of the school community by providing general spiritual social and emotional comfort and religious education to students and staff.

The School Chaplain has significant responsibility for supporting members of the school community in achieving the schools purpose values and strategic goals. They work collaboratively and closely with the members of the student wellbeing staff in matters relating to the development and provision of quality pastoral care programs to enhance student wellbeing and to fulfil the schools mission and aims.

The School Chaplain has an active and visible presence within the School community. They remain informed in all areas of School life work effectively with all members of the community provide pastoral and spiritual care to the School community and where applicable contribute to decisionmaking processes within the School.

The School Chaplain ensures the effective and efficient delivery of a contemporary vibrant and relevant chaplaincy program. They oversee the three critical functions of the School Chaplain for the campus: religious worship student and staff pastoral care and spiritual guidance.
The School Chaplain will inspire guide and model excellence to develop a vibrant and caring culture from Prep to Years 12. With knowledge of contemporary wellbeing practices they will create a safe stimulating and nurturing environment whilst promoting the Schools philosophy policies and procedures.

Reporting to the Principal the School Chaplain is a senior position on campus with the direct responsibility for chaplaincy on their site(s). As such they play an active role in the development and application of current and future strategies and objectives and the implementation of the Schools Strategic Plan Shaping our Future as it relates to their goals.

This position is full time (1.0 FTE) ongoing and will be based at our Freier campus. This role will commence as soon as possible and the position offers 7 weeks holidays 5 weeks paid annual leave and 2 weeks leave without pay (averaged).

Requirement for the role:

  • A Priest of the Anglican Communion who meets the Archbishops requirements to be licensed in the Diocese of Melbourne and has fulfilled the conditions of the Diocesan Safe Ministry Policy.
  • Qualifications in Theology Education and Counselling Social Work or Psychology
  • Experience in the pastoral and/or counselling areas
  • Proven ability as a skilled orator and adept leader of worship
  • Current Working with Children Check
