The Finish & Ship position is responsible for finishing and testing the chassis or vehicle before final shipment to the customer for Spartans emergency response bodies and chassis.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete final torque verification fluid topoff weatherproofing etc.
  • Install missing or defective components as needed
  • Assess and perform mechanical and electrical repairs
  • Ensure all paperwork is complete and accurate
  • Eliminate any potential defects based on writeups and selfinspection
  • Assist with major reworks and projects
  • Maneuver units with a fork truck around the facility or onto trailers
  • Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
  • Read and follow detailed operator instructions installation drawings blueprints etcetera as required by a particular area
  • Selfcheck work and inspect prior processes
  • Use basic hand electric cordless and pneumatic tools as required
  • Meet production goals
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Initiate process improvements
  • Support 5S in work area
  • Communicate with manufacturing and other crossfunctional teams (engineering materials purchasing sales etcetera) to resolve issues
  • Work in close proximity with customer as needed
  • Solve complex problems with minimal assistance

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent attendance
  • Positive attitude
  • Strong and consistent attention to detail
  • Selfmotivated with the ability to stay on task
  • Team oriented
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • Extensive knowledge of Spartans products preferred
  • Strong understanding of cooling power steering suspension air and fuel systems
  • Able to:
    • Accumulate tools and equipment required to perform assigned tasks
    • Assess and repair mechanical issues appropriately
    • Obtain and maintain a CDL Class A or B with air brake certification
    • Obtain and maintain a fork truck license and crane operator permit
    • Tolerate adverse weather conditions
    • Work overtime on short notice
  • Willing to:
    • Learn and rotate within all assembly areas
    • Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training if needed)
    • Develop a working knowledge of Spartans systems (example: AS/400)
    • Train coworkers

EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: (Select education and/or other certifications that may be either required or preferred to perform the job)

HS Diploma or GED: Required
