Job Description
Responsibilities
- Drive the design and optimization of spacecraft structures mechanisms and components by utilizing computeraided design (CAD) software and finite element analysis (FEA) tools to model and simulate structural behavior under various loading conditions and environmental factors.
- Package vehicle components effectively by factoring in their respective needs for heat dissipation and fields of view.
- Evaluate design alternatives and select optimal solutions for mechanical subsystems by conducting feasibility studies and tradeoff analyses
- Create robust documentation by developing and maintaining mechanical interface control documents for spacecraft buslevel components
- Verify the integrity reliability and safety of mechanical designs by performing structural analysis and simulations and supporting hardware through test campaigns
- Create effective assembly and manufacturing drawings by leveraging GD&T.
- Support the manufacturing and assembly processes by providing guidance and troubleshooting assistance at all stages of integration.
- Ensure the timely delivery of highquality mechanical components and subsystems by collaborating with suppliers and external partners through the entire part lifecycle
- Communicate design concepts analysis results and test findings to internal stakeholders external partners and regulatory authorities by preparing thorough technical documentation reports and presentations
Requirements
- Bachelors or Masters degreein Mechanical Aerospace or related engineering discipline
- 5 years of applicable mechanical engineering experience with 2 of those years focused on spacecraft/satellite applications.
- Deep understanding of mechanical first principles
- Hands on experience with flight hardware assembly
- Familiarity with spacecraft operational & survival environments (vibe thermal etc.)
- Proficient with Solidworks or similar CAD and FEA tools
- Experience generating engineering drawings to the Y14.52009 standard.
- Familiar with engineering best practices when it comes to aerospace mechanical/structural design.
- Experience with rapid prototyping/testing to confirm proofofconcept designs.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidiscipline team and provide technical guidance with minimal oversight
Compensation
- The anticipated compensation for this position is $135000$175000/yr depending on previous experience.
