Portland Public Schools: K5 Intervention Coach
Portland Public Schools seeks a dedicated and experienced Intervention Coach to support our elementary school staff in implementing effective datadriven instructional practices in small group reading instruction. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in delivering academic interventions to K5 atrisk students with a collaborative spirit to support teachers in enhancing student learning through small group instruction progress monitoring and assessment analysis.
In addition to instructional support responsibilities the Intervention Coach will work directly with atrisk students approximately 20 / 30 hours per week providing targeted interventions where student need is hours will be flexed on a sliding scale pending FTE and as data is reviewed biannually.
This position will begin with the 25/26 school year.
The desired candidate would possess the following attributes:
Reading Specialist Certification or Masters in Literacy.
Experience administering and interpreting Acadience (DIBELS) assessments.
Experience coaching or mentoring teachers in instructional practices.
LETRS trained or willingness to complete.
Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Bachelors degree or higher in Education or related field.
Valid Michigan teaching license.
Demonstrated experience providing academic interventions to elementaryaged (K5) students.
Knowledge of effective researchbased instructional strategies and interventions.
Ability to analyze assessment data to inform instructional decisions.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Primary responsibilities however not limited to:
Provide Direct Intervention to AtRisk Students (K5): Deliver targeted evidencebased academic interventions to elementary students in small groups or oneonone settings addressing skill gaps and supporting individual learning goals.
Support Child Find Meetings: Collaborate with staff and families to support Child Find processes including reviewing student data and assisting in the development of intervention plans.
Collaborate with the Director of Education: Partner with the Director of Education to align intervention practices with schoolwide academic goals support strategic planning and ensure fidelity in intervention implementation.
Provide Instructional Support for Academic Interventions: Work directly with interventionists teachers and paraprofessionals to model coplan and coach evidencebased instructional strategies for atrisk students.
Coach and Support Academic Paraprofessionals: Under the guidance of the Director of Elementary Education offer guidance training and feedback to academic paraprofessionals to ensure highquality consistent intervention delivery aligned with student needs and instructional goals.
Lead and Facilitate Professional Development: As needed will be asked to design and deliver professional learning sessions related to intervention strategies progress monitoring instructional best practices and effective use of data.
Monitor and Analyze Student Progress Data: Assist in the collection and interpretation of academic progress data to inform instruction and support datadriven decisionmaking within intervention programs.
Collaborate with Instructional Teams: Partner with teachers specialists and administrators to align intervention efforts with core instruction and promote cohesive inclusive learning environments.
