Job Description

ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation Fulltime Family Support Coordinator helps families navigate the pediatric cancer treatment process. The Family Support Coordinator is a nonhospital position and will supplement the support offered by ASK and Childrens Hospital of Richmond at VCU clinic staff.
This position is part of the Family Support Program that provides organizational emotional and informational support to a family during the pediatric cancer treatment process to help them feel empowered to make decisions and maintain control over their treatment experience. The Family Support Program is focused on families who are beginning the process of pediatric cancer treatment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Family Support Coordinator reports to the Director of Programs and works closely with the psychosocial team and clinic staff at the ASK Pediatric Oncology/Hematology Clinic at the Childrens Hospital of Richmond.
  • Build relationships with and act as primary liaison with ASK clinic & hospital staff.
  • Plan and execute sibling events parent night out events and parent social events.
  • Assist with summer camp and other events as needed.
  • Meet with families weekly in the outpatient clinic and hospital to establish a working relationship.
  • Assess the individual and family needs by interviewing the individual family/caregiver and other providers; review needs on an ongoing basis. Evaluates individuals environment for safety security and negative factors.
  • Make referrals and links individuals/families to needed services and resources and coordinate individual services with multiple service providers and agencies. Enhance community integration through increasing individuals community access and involvement.
  • Spend requested respite care time with the child in the hospital so that parents can have a break.
  • Provide home visits with the individual/family as needed.
  • Evaluates the quality of services provided and changes in an individuals condition.
  • Provide consultation and supportive counseling to the individual and family/caregiver for problem resolution (regarding nonhospital issues).
  • Complete documentation and maintain case records.
  • Acquire and maintain current information on available community resources. Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations resources agencies and area businesses in order to better link individuals with needed services and supports and ensure effective coordination of services.
  • Support and facilitate strategic growth of ASK family support program. Assist in orientating any newly hired staff and facilitate shadowing opportunities.
  • Attend hospital volunteer training and abide by all inpatient hospital volunteer guidelines.
  • Work with other ASK program staff to incorporate mental wellness activities and topics into all ASK programs.
  • Process all CHoR MLB applications and assist with statewide MLB applications when needed.
To be successful in this role our Family Support Coordinator will be:
  • Motivated to work in an emotionally challenging environment with demonstrated selfcare skills.
  • Organized independent and selfdisciplined.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Collaborative and comfortable with families and staff of diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word; Excel; PowerPoint) and Google Suites
  • Preferred experience using an online email marketing platform such as Constant Contact.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Career Experience includes:
  • Bachelors Degree in social work counseling human services or a related field from an accredited institution; or relevant professional work experience.
  • Experience in the cancer treatment process is highly favored but not necessary.
  • Working knowledge of public support services and local forprofit support resources.
This is a fulltime (40 hour/week) salaried inperson position. Occasional evening and weekend work required. The salary range is from $50000 to $60000
