The Senior Business Manager within the Justice Directorate is an exciting varied role which affords the opportunity to join one of the most highprofile and fastpaced areas of government at a critical time. The Business Support Unit sits at the heart of the Directorate and the Senior Business Manager will be a source of trusted support and advice to the Director and Senior Leadership Team and with staff at all levels across the Directorate.

Working as part of a small and highly skilled team the Senior Business Manager supports the Director of Justice to deliver the wide ranging and highprofile programme of Justice Directorate work and wider SG corporate functions. The range of responsibilities within the BSU brings lots of variety.

The Justice Directorate is also one of the most highprofile areas of government with Programme for Government and corporate priorities in a range of areas including transformation of the justice system tackling the prison population and modernising legal aid as well as legislation on improving support for victims and witnesses.



Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support and advice to the Director and Senior Leadership Team providing regular reports and attending meetings as required.
  • Work with leadership and the wider BSU team to ensure that the business support function is appropriately structured and skilled to deliver an optimum level of service and support the priorities of the Directorate.
  • Review corporate responsibilities across the directorate and develop plans for sustainable ownership.
  • Lead on Directorate Workforce Planning including on our FTE and Total Operating Costs targets; drafting our Directorate Plan and supporting the Director with Risk Management and corporate assurance supported by leadership.
  • Support the Director as portfolio budget lead for Justice and Safer Communities through the budget round for 25/6.
  • Undertake specific duties and responsibilities in relation to recruitment and finance under the Oracle system providing advice and support to the senior leadership team and across the Directorate
  • Review systems and processes and implement new ways of working to ensure efficient ways of working within BSU and to support the work of the Director and Directorate more widely
  • Manage a member of staff and support them in a range of areas including to develop and deliver a bespoke Directorate Learning and Development Programme.
  • Undertake general business management functions as part of the wider BSU including mailbox management.


Qualifications

Success Profile

Success profiles are specific to each job and they include the mix of skills experience and behaviours candidates will be assessed on.

Experience

  • Experience of the Oracle system and working knowledge of the specific Senior Business Manager responsibilities the new system confers.
  • Previous experience in a business management role is required.
