The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $62186.00 $82397.00/year.

Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed at a city site and/or in the community several days a week. In this position you can expect to work on site at least three days a week at the Republic Plaza at 370 17th Street Denver CO 80202. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their offsite days.
What Youll Do
- Stabilize residents at risk of involuntary displacement and connect residents to housing resources such as home repairs rent and utility assistance and legal support.
- Support residents experiencing a crisis and connect them to housing shelter and other services to get stabilized quickly.
- Create and preserve existing affordable housing and connect residents at any income level to new housing opportunities through programs such as downpayment assistance or counseling services.
- Support financial services contracting and procurement data analysis and strategic planning administrative resources and communications across the housing continuum.
As an Associate Accountant you will be responsible for process refunds reconcile data general ledger review journal vouchers audit records and provide customer service for internal and external stakeholders. HOST distributes over $150 million in contracts and other payments. You will report to the Accounting Supervisor.
Specifically as the Associate Accountant you will:
- Process refunds and reconcile data for housing affordability programs/systems.
- Prepare routine accounting/financial reports spreadsheet reconciliations data compilation and assist with creating quarterly and annual reports.
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts to ensure all revenue and reimbursements are recorded promptly and accurately. Follow up and resolve any IBTs journals and open invoices that are not paid timely or posted incorrectly in the financial system.
- Review create and enter routine journal vouchers into financial systems ensure accuracy of documents and matches records and reports to expenses.
- Perform routine audits of financial records and transactions identifies and researches discrepancies and resolves or makes recommendations for corrective action.
- Assist with conducting special projects regarding financial transactions researches and analyzes accounting issues performs financial calculations and creates reports and compiles supporting documents for management review.
- Review financial data in preparation for Federal and internal audits.
- Review and understand contract/loan agreements DOTs covenants and closing documents for loan transactions.
- Provide increasingly more complex information and assistance regarding accounting information/transactions and work with supporting teams to resolve issues.
- Reconcile data between three to four data systems daily to ensure accurate posting within all.
- Work with stakeholders both internal and external to the City of Denver; responds to inquiries within 48 hours.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience skills and characteristics:
- At least two years of previous professional accounting work with experience in reconciliations trial balance reviews and understanding expense documentation requirements.
- High familiarity with HUD or other Federal Grant programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively.
- Ability to meet many monthly quarterly and yearly deadlines.
- Strong analytical problemsolving and organizational skills.
- High integrity and work ethic commitment to quality work and attention to detail with very large amounts of data/documentation with a drive to learn and improve.
- Passion for creating diverse equitable and inclusive communities. Thorough understanding of homelessness or housing programs to ensure equity diversity and inclusion goals.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Education requirement: Bachelors Degree in Accounting Finance or Business Administration.
- Experience Requirement: One (1) year of professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies analyzing expenditures and preparing financial reports.
- Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.
