Job Description

The Evergreen Nursery helps support young families and children to be successful in themselves and their journey in parenting. Optimum learning occurs in our playcentered child care environment through presence use of teaching materials andworkshops. We support early intervention in the lives of children using appropriate referrals. We empower the parents in their own lives to become successful and achieve their goals. This is done through services in education employment health and lifeskills.

We are seeking 2 parttimeChild Care Workers for 8 weeks to help support care management for youngparents and their children. The successful candidates will help support our young families through program facilitation and navigation as well as providing child care when parents are in workshops. This will be done through different wrap around care services YSM offers as well as external services within the City of Toronto and GTA.

Reporting to the Evergreen Nursery Coordinator this role will include administration development of workshops and engagement with families and supporting their needs.


Please note that this job opening is for Canada Summer Jobs applicants only who must meet the participant requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Agreement with the Employment and Social Development Canada as outlined:

  • between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and;
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement programs for young parents and their children relating to pregnancy baby care selfcare and hands on activities and workshops about parenting
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with young parents and their children
  • Support the care management of young parents and their children
  • Support the implementation of YSMs RISE intervention model TIMES measurement and salesforce outcome
  • Inform the supervisor if a community member has a challenge or problem that is beyond the workers scope of practice
  • Undergo ongoing coaching from YSMs Nursery Health Centre and Care Management Staff
  • Organize and manage the distribution of baby food and baby supplies
  • Supervise and attend to the needs of the children (newborn five years old)
  • Cleaning and sanitizing toys and equipment
  • Comply with all YSM processes policies guidelines and values

Qualifications:

  • Compassion for young parents babies and toddlers
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong work ethics and time management skills
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality (sensitivity to donors records)
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Patient positive attitude hardworking confident
  • Trustworthy responsible and reliable
  • Cool under pressure with multiple demands
  • Able to take initiative and to take direction from others
  • Willingness to learn new things
  • Know when to ask for help
  • Ability to build professional boundaries with community members
  • Follow through commitments and demonstrate responsibility
  • Seek and apply an efficient approach to position duties
  • Some secondary education in the related field of ECE child & youth care worker and social work.
  • First aid and CPR is an asset
