Job Description

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in business or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience performing a variety of office support or clerical work
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be substituted

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interact well with stakeholders including commission members tribal and state government officials and members of the interested public.
  • Teamoriented attitude.

  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products.
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising is not necessary but preferred.

This job may be for you. The Montana Historical Society (MTHS) is filled with friendly and creative staff members who work together to offer the public exciting and innovative ways to experience Montanas rich history. The ideal candidate will be a positive representative of Montana Historical Society to the public be great at interacting with all kinds of patrons and will embody the MTHS culture of excellence teamwork professionalism and passion for the work that we do.

Function: This position will staff the Montana 250 Commission a commission created by the 2023 legislature administratively attached to MTHS. The Montana 250 Commission exists to coordinate statewide efforts to recognize the United States Semiquincentennial promote civic engagement and increase public awareness of civics and history including the history of tribal nations leading up to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States in 2026.

Other: The Montana 250 Coordinator will work a standard 20hour a week with flexible scheduling. The hourly rate of this position will increase by $1.00 per hour starting July 1 2025 in accordance with HB13. The position sunsets December 31 2026.

Representative Duties:

  • Staff commission meetings including making travel arrangements reserving meeting spaces managing virtual meetings coordinating catering processing reimbursements and taking minutes.
  • Help create procedures for tracking and sharing information with commission members and the general public.
  • Help create informational materials to publicize and promote programs and respond to requests for assistance or program information.
  • Interact provide guidance to and communicate with communities interested in participating in Montana 250 activities.
  • Enter track maintain analyze and report program data including requests for proposals and grant funding applications.
  • Plan and conduct stakeholder outreach to private entities nonprofits educational institutions and national state local and tribal partners.
  • Assist with fundraising and marketing.
  • Respond to commissioners request for information and prepare reports and materials for commission meetings.
  • Help track financial information including revenue and expenses; code and submit invoices to accounting for payment.
  • Help assess community needs and share information with commissioners to define Montana 250 programs.
  • Assist with budget or grant documents and approve expenditures.
  • Review interpret and monitor compliance with guidelines laws and regulations.
  • Prepare reports.
