Position Summary:
The associate director will serve as the advisor for the undergraduate student government known as the Student Association a highly influential organization representing the student body and working closely with upperlevel administration. This role will also oversee student engagement clubs and OwlNest Rices student engagement platform. The associate director also supervises two fulltime staff members.
Ideal Candidate Statement:
An ideal candidate has experience managing or working with a student engagement platform club registration facilitating leadership programming and budgeting. We are especially seeking candidates with experience advising a complex organization that works with student policy issues and student governance.
Workplace Requirements:
This position is offered as a hybrid role combining both inoffice and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. As a heavily studentfocused role this position would work one day remotely and four days inoffice during the academic year and two days remotely and three days inoffice during the summer. Per Rice policy 440 work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range:$63500 $67000 annually contingent upon experience and qualifications.
*Exempt (salaried) positions underFLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors degree
- 3 years experience in areas such as:
- Student Activities
- Leadership development
- Advising highlevel student organizations
- Student engagement platforms
- Budgeting
- In lieu of the experience requirement additional related education above and beyond what is required may be substituted on an equivalent yearforyear basis.
Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to advise highlevel student leaders in a oneonone setting
- Ability to apply student development theories to practice
- Ability to supervise and assess staff
- Must have some exposure to student activities leadership development student government supervision and student unions/centers
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate leadership development programming
- Ability to create training programs for students and/or student organizations
- Exceptional problemsolving and analytical skills
Preferences:
- Masters degree in student personnel administration or related field
- Experience advising student government
- Supervisory experience
- Experience with club registration
- Experience planning campuswide events
- Experience managing large budgets and reconciling expenses
- Previous collegiatelevel student advising experience
- Experience working in a university setting
Essential Functions:
- Support department and area mission vision and goals
- Oversight of Student Activities related to all advisement of clubs club leadership development and financial responsibility
- Develops updates and enforces operating policies and procedures for Student Activities
- Supervises sets functional area goals and provides performance feedback and professional development for direct reports
- Manages Student Activities budget
- Serves as lead for OwlNest student engagement software (currently Anthology Engage) for campus and division use
- Advises the Student Association (SA) undergraduate student government and all of its leaders and components related to policies programs student development and risk management
- Develops plans and implements programming and outreach for student leaders and the campus community in collaboration with team members
- Assists with general oversight for university and governmental compliance and serves as university representative in regard to policy enforcement
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions:
- Serves as backup for direct reports duties when necessary
- Documents and assesses area functions regularly
- Supervises the financial management for over 300 organizations in conjunction with the Accounts Specialist
- Responsible for logistics and coordinating marketing related to area(s) of responsibility
- Supports university initiatives and programming through college senators SA committees and New Student Representative program
- Promotes and encourages both a diversity of programs and student participation in all aspects of involvement at the University
- Manages club registration process with the assistant director of student activities
- Provides consultation and advising to support student organizations
- Occasionally attendance at afterhours departmental events on or off campus may be required
