Job Summary
The Motion Analysis System Specialist is responsible for overseeing and performing all biomechanical and biomedical engineering aspects of motion analysis operations. This includes performing detailed motion analysis of patients with various gait and movement disorders from data acquisition to report generation maintenance and calibration of equipment system management data management and quality assurance. Also participates in program development and the clinical and research functions of the program. Provides education training and support necessary to maintain the integrity of the motion analysis lab. Actively participates in measuring clinical and program metrics functional/quality of life outcomes perception of care and ongoing quality improvement initiatives. Lastly works on special projects as assigned.
Job Specific Duties
- Partners with Dyad Physician Leaders and Program Manager as well as aligns with the Brain and Orthopedic Leadership Team.
- Supports leadership goals and program objectives by providing engineering and technical support to the motion capture and gait laboratory focusing on clinical motion capture and physiologic measurement. This includes operating and troubleshooting lab equipment patient marker placement developing analysis codes processing data and generating reports using Motion Capture software MATLAB Visual 3D Python Java MS Office and EMR software along with additional lab support as needed.
- Performs quality control troubleshooting and documentation of motion and physiologic data collection equipment and procedures in collaboration with the program manager. Responsibilities include testing validating calibrating equipment maintaining service contracts validating new models and expanding the labs normal database.
- Works independently on complex projects contributes to and/or oversees processes and recommends updates to improve departmental performance in neuromotor and cerebral palsy program.
- Assists with research studies of children with CP neuromuscular or neuromotor disorders in the Motion Analysis Laboratory managing records and correspondence testing participants with motion analysis and wearable technologies assisting with data analysis and updating software. May present findings at research meetings.
- Ensures quality collection processing archival and retrieval of data providing support to patients families and staff.
- Collects electromyographic kinetic kinematic foot pressure and IMU data as needed.
- Updates and develops software to improve data processing.
- Processes patient data in a timely manner according to requirements.
- Assists in interpreting patient data reviewing it with the gait lab team to determine treatment recommendations and preparing final reports.
- Assists with research projects compiling data and contributing to conference abstracts podium and poster presentations and scientific journal submissions.
- Maintains patient and clinical data storage.
- Attends training on new technologies and coordinates clinician training for optimal equipment use.
- Participates with physicians and stakeholders to create clinical metrics and quality of life functional outcomes for the program.
- Participates in special projects to promote the programs growth efficiency and operations.
- Engages in COE presentations publications and talks.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Masters Degree in Kinesiology (Biomechanics) Biomechanical Engineering Biomedical Engineering or related field
- American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Finger printing background and Good Moral Character Affidavit must be initiated within 15 days of hire date and finalized within 90 days of hire date
- Previous experience in a clinical gait analysis lab or motion capture setting
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- 2-3 years of experience in a clinical gait analysis lab or motion capture setting highly desired.
- Pediatric experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of biomechanics human anatomy and kinesiology to understand the movements being measured.
- Broad working background in computer science to understand operating systems networks protocols software design and development and current computer hardware.
- Proficiency in analytical and programming languages related to motion capture and gait equipment softwares such as Visual3D MATLAB statistical analysis and the MS office applications as well as force plate technology.
- Broad working knowledge of applied math to understand implement and develop algorithms used in modeling and processing storage and retrieval of data.
- Experience with machine learning techniques.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary health care team as well as interact appropriately with pediatric clinical subjects underdoing motion analysis.
- Interest in providing engineering support for clinical operations and research related data collection/analysis.
- Excellent communication writing analytical and statistical skills.
- Proficient in verbal and written scientific reporting.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
