The Role
We are looking for an Associate to join our Capital Network team to work across our Enterprise & American Dynamism (AD) verticals. The Capital Network function serves as a trusted advisor that guides & advises our portfolio companies through capital raising (equity and debt) M&A (including strategic investments) and capital markets transactions. The primary function of this role is to provide real and sustained value to: (i) the Firms Enterprise & AD portfolio companies (ii) the Enterprise & AD investment team and (iii) the broader Enterprise & AD operating teams through crossfunctional collaboration.
This role requires an inoffice presence Tuesday through Thursday in our San Francisco CA office.
To join our team you should be excited to:
- Assist the Firms Enterprise & AD portfolio companies with transactional work including capital raising and M&A advisory in partnership with Capital Network Lead
- Perform valuation analyses for investment and M&A execution
- Assist in the coordination and execution of financing & strategic processes and portfolio analysis
- Create presentation materials for internal and external audiences for both the Capital Network team and the a16zs portfolio companies to drive outcomes
- Conduct primary research for the group or in coordination with other internal a16z operating groups that deliver key insights on industry developments and trends
- Perform comprehensive indepth company and industry research as well as complex portfolio and benchmarking analyses (i.e. KPI analysis)
Minimum Qualifications
- 24 years of corporate finance experience. Preferable prior experience includes but is not limited to corporate development roles investment banking in a sector coverage capacity (Tech Aerospace & Defense and/or Industrial Tech) M&A product role management consulting and other technologyfocused finance roles where capital raising and M&A was a strong focus
- Comprehensive knowledge of corporate finance financial modeling and data & analytics
- Ability to quickly build trust with other team members as well as entrepreneurs and broader capital/strategic network
- Low ego high empathy and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities work toward contributing new ideas & solutions navigate situations with ambiguity and execute consistently in a dynamic environment
- Exceptional communication interpersonal and presentation skills with a focus on detail and executive presence
- Proven ability to multitask and apply initiative and creativity on projects
- Bachelors degree in Finance Business Economics or a technical field preferred but not required
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $184000 $214000 actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience skills and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health dental vision disability life insurance 401K plan vacation and sick leave.
