Our client a leading mining company specializing in the extraction and processing of copper through oxide and sulfide ore processing facilities is seeking a highly skilled Senior Metallurgist to oversee the technical control of oxide and sulfide processing facilities ensuring operational excellence and efficiency. This role involves leading metallurgical processes optimizing plant performance and providing technical guidance to operational teams. The Senior Metallurgist will focus on sulfide copper flotation milling while supporting acid leaching solvent extraction and electrowinning operations. Reporting to the Process Manager the incumbent will drive continuous improvement ensure regulatory compliance and foster a culture of safety and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead metallurgical processes with a primary focus on sulfide copper flotation mill operations to maximize recovery grade and throughput.
  • Monitor and optimize plant performance through data analysis metallurgical testing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support to operations teams using electronic dashboards KPI metrics and process instructions troubleshooting issues and identifying optimization opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Process Manager Process Foreman and Senior Chemist to ensure seamless of metallurgical plans and timely escalation of concerns.
  • Manage the Metallurgical Laboratory and collaborate with the Senior Chemist on Process Lab outcomes.
  • Conduct meetings develop plant operating parameters create problemsolving routines and prepare technical reports to inform operational staff of required changes.
  • Develop review and update metallurgical procedures and standards to ensure compliance with safety environmental and operational regulations.
  • Manage process improvement projects using methodologies such as Lean Management Continuous Improvement and 5S to enhance production and debottleneck operations.
  • Support oxide copper processing (acid leach solvent extraction electrowinning) as needed.
  • Evaluate new equipment and reagents to improve process efficiency.
  • Oversee the metal accounting system to ensure accurate daily weekly and monthly process reporting.
  • Champion a safetyfirst culture enforcing adherence to regulations through proactive training and audits.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in process plant environments with a focus on flotation and hydrometallurgical facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in metallurgical data analysis process optimization and troubleshooting.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with experience supervising teams (e.g. Plant Metallurgical Engineer Metallurgical Technician).
  • Knowledge of industry best practices safety and environmental regulations.
  • Handson problemsolving skills and the ability to thrive in a fastpaced environment.
  • Experience with solvent extraction electrowinning and acid leaching processes is an advantage.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a sciencerelated field.
  • Experience with Lean Management Continuous Improvement or 5S methodologies.
