Kansas City University seeks adjunct faculty for a new Master of Health Science in Anesthesiologist Assistant Program in Joplin Missouri. Faculty members play a critical role in the implementation of the program curriculum. Responsibilities include teaching course material in various settings including the highfidelity humanpatient simulation lab classroom (in person and synchronous virtual) and small group discussion. Faculty participate in curriculum improvements and student assessments to support student success and professional growth. Faculty also provide student advisement and hold regular office hours for academic support.
Choice of topics include task trainer and highfidelity simulation POCUS anesthesia monitors and machines applied physics preanesthetic evaluation and examination cardiovascular and respiratory physiology anesthesia pharmacology subspecialty anesthesia and surgeryspecific protocols quality improvement and patient safety.
Time commitment is collaboratively negotiated between the program director and faculty ranging from 0.2 to 1.0 FTE.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The faculty member will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
Develop implement deliver and evaluate instructional content and practical sessions for assigned courses by utilizing traditional and interactive teaching methods
Maintain course syllabi
Create and grade exams quizzes and other assessments
Serve as an advisor coach and/or mentor to MHSAA students guiding their professional development
Participate in developing the goals objectives and policies and procedures for the Master of Health Science in Anesthesiologist Assistant program specifically and as a collaborator with other KCU programs
Participate in scholarly activities and service in support of the department with emphasis on annual accreditation requirements
Attend various university ceremonies including white coating ceremony graduations and other special events
Participate in KCU meetings as requested
Represent Kansas City University favorably and in accordance with the established Core Values and expectations
Perform other duties as assigned by supervising faculty or Program Director
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning and discovery. Candidates should be highly motivated to be part of the development and growth of a new program and willing to serve as academic coaches and role models to students while providing compassionate ethical and evidenced based learning approaches.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited masters level health/medical sciences program or higher
Previous or continuing practice as a certified anesthesiologist assistant physician assistant physician pharmacist physical therapist other APP etc.
Candidates should have effective organization communication verbal and written skills as well as proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software programs and online Learning Management Systems
Experience as a course director team teaching and mentoring students in research is preferred
Clinical Opportunities: KCU has several clinical partners available for selection by candidates. Faculty will be employed by KCU or a clinical partner and leased to the other depending on FTE. If currently employed locally KCU may negotiate buyout of clinical time.
