Job Description
The University of Washingtons Department of Rehabilitation Medicine Division of Physiatry is offering an outstanding opportunity for an SCI Physiatrist to join our faculty. This will be a fulltime academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure due to source of funding which is typical of ranked faculty appointments within the department). Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multiyear appointments that align with a 12month service period (July 1June 30). Faculty with 12month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12month period (JulyJune) meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Anticipated start date is Fall 2025 but other dates may be considered.

As a member of the Division of Physiatry the successful candidate will participate in research teaching/scholarship and clinical activity and will be expected to fulfill requirements for advancement along the ClinicianScientist pathway of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine University of Washington School of Medicine. Clinical responsibilities will include working on the inpatient consult service and outpatient rehabilitation clinic at Harborview Medical Center with an emphasis on caring for patients with spinal cord injury. There also will be opportunity to serve as attending on the inpatient unit at Harborview Medical Center and/or to see patients at the University of Washington Medical Center as needed. Responsibilities also will include working as part of the Northwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury System with responsibilities for coordinating SCI forums annual wellness summit a peer support program and other dissemination activities. The successful candidate will have opportunity to collaborate with existing research teams as well as to develop their own research portfolio. There will be opportunity to participate in the teaching of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residents/fellows and other students staff or faculty. The majority of this teaching may take place as part of clinical supervision or didactic sessions.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching research and service.
The base salary range for this position will be $15000 $20194 per month ($180000 $247175 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice planin addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position may include any of the following if applicable: incentive through UW Physicians (UWP) moving allowance relocation incentive administrative supplements for leadership roles that may later be attached to the position.

- As one of the largest recipients of rehabilitation research funding in the country research is a key focus of our department. Key research focus areas include limb loss pain multiple sclerosis spinal cord injury brain injury and disability. Our faculty collaborate extensively with other departments within the School of Medicine as well as with outside institutions. In fiscal year 2023 our department researchers received more than $15.7 million in awards from government and private sources. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Department of Defense (DoD) and the National Institute on Disability Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)/ Administration for Community Living (ACL) were our top sponsors comprising a total of 72% of the awards we received. In addition our departmental faculty who are based at VA Puget Sound Health Care System have a total of $21.8 million in current funding.
The department has four clinical divisions: General Physiatry Sports and Spine Physiatry Pediatric Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Psychology & Neuropsychology. Faculty provide clinical services across four UW Medicine campuses: Harborview Medical Center University of Washington Medical CenterMontlake University of Washington Medical CenterNorthwest and UW Eastside Specialty Center. More than 25 of our faculty are based at Seattle Childrens Hospital and the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System which are UW Medicineaffiliated organizations. The Sports and Spine division provides care at seven clinics throughout the UW Medicine system.
- We offer nationally recognized training in rehabilitation therapies and rehabilitation research through four graduate degree programs: PhD in Rehabilitation Science Master in Occupational Therapy Master in Prosthetics and Orthotics and Doctor of Physical Therapy.

The successful candidate must
- have a medical degree (MD DO or foreign equivalent)
- be boardcertified or boardeligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
- successful completion of residency training in an accredited PM&R program
- successful completion of a Spinal Cord Injury fellowship
- have or be eligible for medical licensure by the State of Washington
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1B visa graduates of foreign (nonU.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
