Job Description

Reports to: Head of School

Terms: BASAS Group 10B 211 days

The Director of Teaching Learning and Academic growth will direct support coordinate and supervise all aspects of curriculum and instruction in the school to meet systemwide goals and to improve student achievement. This person will work directly with the BLA leadership team to ensure that alignment accountability and student growth are at the forefront of what we do. They will use and help to implement highimpact practices to set the bar for academic excellence in the school utilizing a team approach to ensuring our goals are collectively accomplished. They will assist with the supervision of teachers including regularly and systematically observing instruction and advising teachers on instructional methods reviewing teachers student learning and professional practice goals and action plans; advising the Head of School and Leadership team on the diagnosis of teaching performance including the preparation of prescriptions for the improvement of performance and coordinating and monitoring professional development of teachers. They will also serve as a coach to teachers to help develop teaching practice. The Director of Teaching Learning and Academic growth will also coordinate implementation of State and Citywide Learning Standards as well as systemwide programs goals and objectives dealing with curriculum and instruction. They will collaborate and lead efforts to improve overall ILT practices as well as the facilitation of professional development and professional learning spaces. They will work to secure funding and resources to improve overall teaching and learning within the community improving both Tier 1 and Tier 2 practices within the school community.

Reports to: Principal

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates curriculum among upper humanities subject areas that meet the needs of all learners within the BLA community
  2. Lead professional learning spaces including professional development and humanities professional learning communities
  3. Regularly addresses and adjusts curricular materials to meet the needs of the school community.
  4. Coordinates and evaluates the purchase and selection of texts and materials and maintains inventory.
  5. Coordinates administration of assessments (i.e. MCAS MAP AP SAT.) and assists the Head of School Administrators and teachers with the analysis of test results and with the use of test results to modify instruction.
  6. Facilitates the Instructional Leadership Team in collaboration with Instructional Coaches and regularly provides feedback on progress toward whole school instructional and performance goals.
  7. Facilitates acquisition of external resources for curriculum and develops systems of support for students within the school day.
  8. Serve as primary evaluator for members of the humanities team grades 1012.
  9. Coordinate curriculum mapping and vertical alignment and support through professional development with instructional rounds and peer observations for teachers within the department.
  10. Assists the Instructional Coaches in the planning of schoolwide activities including professional development.
  11. Securing funding to continue to enhance academic practices schoolwide.
  12. Work to develop a vision of a graduate for the BLA community in support of the NEASC process.

Qualifications Required:

  1. Education: Masters Degree in Education or related field.
  2. Three (3) years experience successful teaching experience.
  3. Massachusetts license for Supervisor/Director or Principal/Assistant Principal licenses.
  4. Demonstrated leadership qualities interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students teachers administrators and parents.
  5. Ability to establish a multicultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive selfimage.
  6. Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Qualifications Preferred:

  1. Teaching experience in an urban K12 educational setting.
  2. Experience as a school administrator.
  3. Experience in Grant writing and fundraising.
  4. BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom school and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS official languages: Spanish Creole (Cape Verdean) Creole (Haitian) Chinese Vietnamese Portuguese & Somali.

Terms: BASAS Group 10B 211 days

The BASAS contract year runs from September 1 through August 31. All BASAS members are must work 183 school days with teachers. The additional days beyond the 183 school days shall be agreed upon with your supervisor. These days shall be considered nonscheduled work days and should be coded by your supervisor or secretary as S6500 in the timesheet. The additional days may be fulfilled before during or following the school year all work must be completed between September 1 and August 31.
