You have an exciting opportunity to work as part of a dedicated team of professionals at either North Lake Tapps Park (NLTP) or Chambers Creek Regional Park (CCRP). Here youll develop your technical and customer service skills as you work alongside other Parks Professionals to create and maintain beautiful clean accessible and safe outdoor spaces and indoor facilities for public use. The North and West Regions have large busy parks that hosts many exciting activities and special events. The teams also support the smaller local parks and other facility operations some of which are set to add parks trails and improvement projects in the coming years. This is exciting because you will have input regarding decision making and get to shape the future growth of Pierce County Parks.

We provide recreation programs and infrastructure in active and passive parks and trails. The department consists of three divisions: Parks and Recreation Administration and Resource Stewardship. How to be Successful in the Role:
Bring your knowledge of and the ability to perform a variety of maintenance trades like irrigation landscaping equipment repair athletic field maintenance and more. If you have experience with special event setup thats a plus! Your willingness to learn and perform all the specialized maintenance tasks as well as support in whatever capacity necessary to achieve objectives will guide your success. With your excellent work ethic and positive attitude you will thrive in this environment. The flexibility to work weekends evenings and overtime as needed is required.

Your Future in this Role:
You will get to be part of a maintenance team that operates maintains and repairs the infrastructure of the Pierce County Parks system. Your work will be instrumental in providing Pierce County residents with safe and enjoyable parks and facilities. Success in this position also offers a great foundation for future professional growth within the Parks and Recreation department.

Core Daily Responsibilities:
  • General Park maintenance duties such as opening/closing facilities grounds maintenance turf management garbage/litter pick up and disposal cleaning public restrooms site and structure inspections facilities maintenance vandalism repair and unauthorized encampment clearance.
  • Be involved in ballfield playground trails and irrigation systems maintenance.
  • Performs specialized maintenance of athletic fields as well as daily upkeep of a variety of different landscapes throughout the park as well as the Wastewater Treatment Plant (for CCRP) or the new Tehaleh Mountain Bike Park (NLTP).
  • Proficiency using an automated Work Order system to retrieve assignments and document work performed.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience installing and maintaining irrigation systems.
  • Facilities and grounds maintenance experience.
Possession of or the ability to obtain may be required for some positions:
  • Valid First Aid Certification including CPR
  • Valid Washington State Pesticide License
  • Satisfactory physical condition is required as indicated by a Countyapproved physical examination.
As a condition of employment the applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check. Information received from the background check is reviewed casebycase and will not necessarily remove an applicant from consideration.
