Seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our faculty as a Contract (NonTenureTrack) in the Department of Education. This position is designed for individuals who have a passion for teaching research and mentoring in the field of literacy education. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in reading and literacy education The majority of the teaching is inperson but some online teaching may be required online; supervise student teaching and field placements; and contribute to the departments mission through scholarly activities and service.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in K12 literacy instruction who hold a valid Reading Teacher/Reading Specialist K12 License and a masters degree in education; a doctorate is preferred. ACT 20 training or a demonstrated commitment to completing this certification is highly preferred.
Responsibilities:
Teach courses inperson and online related to reading literacy and language arts as well as foundational and/or specialinterest education courses for undergraduate and graduate students.
Supervise and mentor students in clinical practicum and studentteaching placements.
Contribute to the development and improvement of curriculum and program assessment.
Participate in departmental college and committee meetings.
Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students. Engage in service activities related to literacy education and/or community outreach.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Reading Teacher/Reading Specialist K12 License (or equivalent certification) required.
Masters Degree in Literacy Reading Education Curriculum and Instruction or a related field at the time of appointment; Doctoral degree or ABD (All But Dissertation) preferred.
A demonstrated record of successful teaching experience in K12 education (preferably in reading/literacy instruction).
Ability to employ best practices in educational pedagogy including universal design for learning and culturally responsive instruction as well as being able to build capacity in others
Robust understanding of evidencebased practices in literacy and reading instruction.
Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of ACT 20 training or commitment to completing this certification upon hire.
Experience teaching inperson and online at the university level in literacy or related fields.
Background in the growth and development of reading/literacy programs.
Experience and/or licensure with multilingual learners.
