The Role: We are looking for a talented Database administrator to work within one of our Product teams partnering with team members from Product Design and Engineering. You will have a strong collaborative background focusing on working with multidisciplinary teams to create shape and form the best possible data products. You should be comfortable and skilled with challenging the status quo and relish the idea of solving hard problems through deep collaboration with Customers and cross functional teams.
You will tackle interesting novel situations every day and youll have the opportunity to partner with multiple product teams at Morningstar in order to deliver exceptional service to the Wealth Platform business.
The SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the implementation configuration maintenance and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a handson position requiring solid technical skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and sustainment of the SQL Server Warehouse ensuring its operational readiness (security health and performance) executing data loads and performing data modelling in support of multiple development teams. The data warehouse supports an enterprise application suite of program management tools. Must be capable of working independently and collaboratively.
Responsibilities
- Create and manage multiple databases and capacity planning
- Monitor maintain database system and troubleshoot problems that may arise
- Maintain data integrity and security (manage roles permission of database users).
- Use tools like SQL profiler for database tuning should be able to generate traces execution plans identify performance bottleneck deadlocks/contention and resolve them.
- Develop strategies and implement solutions for managing backups restoration and replication.
- Create and manage constraints and indexes.
- Support software developers with database operations including the development of complex SQL tuning of DML and the creation of stored procedures.
- Proactive housekeeping/archiving and shrinking of databases.
- Manage production QA Stage and development database environments.
- Create detailed documentation including diagrams of database infrastructure.
- Learn relevant business processes and understand the data flow criticality and dependencies.
- Effectively coordinate and communicate with all the stakeholders (internal teams and clients).
Requirements
- Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science or equivalent and a total of 48 years experience in MSSQL Database administration using SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2017/2019 versions.
- Experience in SQL Server Clustering and HA technologies including mirroring log shipping failover cluster AlwaysOn and various replication technologies would be an advantage.
- Sound knowledge of RDBMS concepts database architecture and SQL/TSQL.
- Proficient with SQL server profiler for monitoring and troubleshooting database activity and performance.
- Ability to develop procedure documents and maintain detailed database related documents.
- Innovative approach to work constantly looking for upgrading the system to more efficient and effective new technologies.
- Able to organize work efficiently and work well under stress changing priorities and time constraints.
- Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments from development to missioncritical production systems.
- Configure and maintain database servers and processes including monitoring of system health and performance to ensure high levels of performance availability and security.
- Apply data modelling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations Independently analyze solve and correct issues in realtime providing problem resolution endtoend.
- Refine and automate regular processes track issues and document changes Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
- Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems. Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
- Share domain and technical expertise providing technical mentorship and crosstraining to other peers and team members.
