Job Description

Summary

The recruitment for this position is open to internal King County Department of Local services employees only. This Special Duty Assignment will be expected to last through midOctober 2025.

King County Road Services Division Engineering Section is seeking a special duty assignment of a Drainage Engineer (Engineer III) to join our dynamic team! Our successful candidate will serve in a lead capacity in a multidisciplinary team overseeing consultant designs for fish passage restoration projects delivered through contract construction. This position ensures that engineering designs align with the King County Road Standards and the King County Surface Water Design Manual while integrating fish passage requirements into the design and construction of stream crossings. WORKING CONDITIONS:

INTERVIEW SCHEDULE:First review of applications will take place the week of 5/12/2025. Those applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to participate in aninterview the week of 5/19/2025.

WHO MAY APPLY:
This recruitment is opento internal King County Department of Local services employees only. Special duty opportunities are open only to current King County career service employees who have completed their initial probation. Special duty applicants must have approval from their current supervisor to accept an assignment. Current employees selected for special duty will be compensated based upon the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement King County Personnel Guidelines or Coalition Labor Agreement for their base assignment. First consideration will be given to current PROTEC17 members in the same classification that are eligible for lateral transfer.

WORK SCHEDULE:This position has a MondayFriday work week with 8hour days and variable shifts.
This position is NonExempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standard Act and is eligible for overtime pay with prior supervisor approval.

EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS:This position has been designated NonMission Critical Employees who staff county functions or services that may be delayed suspended or diverted in an emergency while essential functions are prioritized Mission Critical.

Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive department director or agency head all employees regardless of designation are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather. TELEWORKING REQUIREMENT:
This is a hybrid position. The work associated with this position will be performed by teleworking onsite work and meetings as needed. The responsibilities of this position will include regular and ongoing inoffice work. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. King County has a robust collection of
