Primary Purpose
The Assistant Director for the Public Policy Programs leads the recruitment and admission activities and ongoing student services for public policy students. This position reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Graduate Online & International Programs.
Essential Functions
Lead and implement the recruiting admissions and yield strategies for the MPP and MPA programs. Market the MPP and MPA programs on a local and national level at recruitment events professional conferences community campus and alumni events. Oversee the application process and recruiting activities. Analyze and develop strategies to address issues and trends in the recruiting and application process. Strategically manage individual and general communication with prospective students and applicants. Counsel prospective students during the application process. Ensure effective indepth responsive and tailored communication with prospective students and applicants by phone email texts and inperson meetings with the goal of converting prospective applicants to matriculated students. Counsel prospective admitted and matriculated MPP and MPA students regarding admissions criteria course selection curriculum and academic expectations. In collaboration with the career center at McGeorge support the efforts as they relate to career counseling and events. In collaboration with the faculty director support program specific tasks and events. Develop programs and activities for MPP and MPA programs. Collaborate with graduate admissions student services alumni and other units of the University to promote success of graduate policy programs and the University programs in general. Handle confidential student information with discretion and in compliance with the FERPA regulations. Supervise student workers. Provide back up to the Assistant Director for Graduate and Online Programs. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree. Three (3) years of public policy work higher education recruiting or marketing related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Public Policy ( MPP ) and Master of Public Administration ( MPA ) degree strongly preferred. Knowledge of academic programs especially of professional graduate programs. Knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in the use of Banner. Exceptional verbal written organizational and interpersonal skills required. Strong customer service skills desired. Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fastpaced environment. Working knowledge using current office software such as: Word PowerPoint Excel Internet and electronic email. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice equity and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
Work Schedule
Work schedule is 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. This position requires evening and/or weekend work at specific times of the academic year. Some travel is expected but with time to plan.
