Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: At least 18 years of age high school education or equivalent a valid drivers license and must be able to legally possess a firearm and ammunition.
Preferred Qualifications: At least one year of correctional experience with direct supervision of incarcerated individuals. Education training or experience in customer service with the operation of industrial grounds maintenance equipment.
Other: Valid drivers license required. Must obtain Class B CDL with air brakes within 6 months of hire.* Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following preemployment exams in this order: medical exam and at a randomly announced time pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
*FMCSA Clearinghouse Registration Notice to Applicants: The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has created the Commercial Drivers License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse (Clearinghouse). The Clearinghouse is a secure online database that contains realtime information about CDL drivers with drug or alcohol program violations in accordance with 49 CFR Part 382. It is effective as of January 6 2020. Prior to hiring an individual to perform safety sensitive duties NDCS is required to conduct a full query of the individual to check whether the Clearinghouse contains any information prohibiting the individual from performing safety sensitive duties. An individual must provide consent for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services to perform a full query. An individual may only provide consent through the Clearinghouse. Individuals are therefore required to be registered with the Clearinghouse.
