The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully reenter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 9000 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The DOC has a unique career opportunity for experienced Project Managers in the Strategic Initiatives Unit. Strategic Initiatives was established to oversee priority operations to support strategic programs and measure performance for greater progress and accountability. Strategic Initiatives additionally identifies and leads largescale innovative projects and reform initiatives in support of the Departments mission including the BoroughBased Jails (BBJ) and Outposted Therapeutic Hospital Units (OTxHU) projects. In particular the BBJ and OTxHU teams are responsible for representing DOCs interests in the unprecedented design and construction of multiple new jail facilities throughout New York City as well as the transition planning logistics and policy development for these new facilities. The selected candidates responsibilities may include but will not be limited to the following:
Preparing project plans status reports presentations agendas and maintaining applicable
supporting documents;
Tracking and managing the execution of critical processes across project operations;
Liaising between DOC leadership and initiative owners to ensure project objectives are
achieved and stakeholders are aligned;
Building and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of individuals including
internal and external stakeholders;
Identifying opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies;
Developing expertise in jail operations correctional best practices and national reform
efforts;
Identifying and escalating issues and risks to appropriate stakeholders and preparing
relevant reports/documentation;
Utilizing problemsolving skills along with research and data collection to make
professional recommendations to agency leadership; and
Performing special projects and related duties as assigned.
PREFERRED SKILLS
A creative and strategic thinker adept at program innovation design development and
management utilizing research and evaluation.
Outstanding analytic problemsolving and creative thinking skills.
Effective project manager with the proven ability to successfully guide and manage
multiple highpriority projects simultaneously and to organize and drive projects to
timely completion.
Indepth knowledge of current criminal justice reform initiatives and citywide goals and
objectives.
Ability to work quickly under pressure and strict deadlines while still ensuring a
highquality work product.
Experience and proven ability to cultivate partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
Ability and willingness to take initiative and work collaboratively.

Qualifications :
1. For Assignment Level I (only physical biological and environmental sciences and public health) A masters degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and one year of fulltime experience in a responsible supervisory administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A masters degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and three years of responsible fulltime research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least a masters degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in 2 above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in 1 and 2 above.

Probationary Period
Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
