Job Summary
The Driver will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients medical staff and equipment to and from the hospital and other healthcare facilities. This role requires strict adherence to road safety regulations excellent knowledge of routes and the ability to respond quickly in emergencies. The Ambulance Driver will work closely with paramedics and medical teams to ensure patients receive prompt and efficient care during transit.
Main Duties
Safely operate the ambulance to transport patients to and from the hospital and other locations.
Assist medical personnel in loading and unloading patients including those on stretchers or wheelchairs.
Ensure the ambulance is clean wellmaintained and stocked with necessary medical supplies and equipment.
Respond promptly to emergency calls and follow dispatch instructions accurately.
Monitor and maintain vehicle logs fuel levels and service schedules.
Adhere to all traffic laws and hospital protocols while driving.
Communicate effectively with dispatchers medical staff and patients families.
Assist in providing basic first aid or support to paramedics during emergencies.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling patient information.
Perform routine checks on ambulance equipment and report any malfunctions.
Ensure infection control measures are followed including cleaning and disinfecting the vehicle after each use.
Participate in regular training on emergency response and safe driving practices.
Assist in the transfer of patients between hospital departments as needed.
Support the medical team during mass casualty or disaster response situations.
Complete all required documentation and incident reports accurately.
Remain calm and composed under stressful and emergency conditions.
Provide compassionate support to patients and their families during transit.
Attend staff meetings and contribute to discussions on transport protocols and safety improvements.
Report any accidents delays or incidents to the appropriate authorities immediately.
Comply with all hospital policies and procedures related to patient transport.
Education: Minimum of SSCE/OND; valid driver s license.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience; experience in ambulance or emergency vehicle driving is an advantage.
Skills: Excellent driving skills knowledge of local routes ability to remain calm in emergencies basic first aid knowledge.
