TITLE: Elementary Physical Education Teacher 0.5 FTE)
LOCATION: Yankee Ridge Multilingual Elementary School
SUPERVISOR: Building Principal and/or Assistant Principal(s)
JOB SUMMARY: To provide all students with abilityappropriate standardsbased learning experiences that facilitate the development of:
- fundamental movement skills necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities
- knowledge related to the benefits of regular physical activity
- appreciation of physical activity and the benefits it provides
- social and emotional skills necessary for teamwork and cooperation
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develops maintains and consistently updates abilityappropriate standardsbased curriculum specific to each grade level.
- Employs various developmentally appropriate instructional strategies that encourage all students to engage in every learning experience.
- Maintains an inclusive highly active cognitively enriching positive learning environment that incorporates schoolwide behavioral expectations.
- Provides comprehensive safety instruction and supervision and regularly checks equipment and learning environments to ensure all students safety.
- Promotes physical activity outside physical education class by collaborating with administration other teachers recess and support staff parents and community organizations.
- Evaluates student progress in skill knowledge attitude and interpersonal objectives and provides regular feedback to students parents and school personnel regarding students progress.
- Maintains professional competence through involvement in professional organizations conference attendance district sponsored inservice education activities and/or selfselected professional growth activities.
- Participates in schoolwide service opportunities in leadership and support capacities.
- Works cooperatively with district administration physical education teachers and other wellness personnel in planning a K12 healthenhancing physical education program and districtwide wellness policies and initiatives.
- Follows all district safety ethical and professional standards and protocol.
- Aligns curriculum instruction and assessment methods with the Illinois Learning Standards for Physical Development and Health.
- Provides differentiated Physical Education instruction based on the skill levels and abilities of the students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with licensure and/or endorsement in the core teaching area.
EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience teaching students at the elementary school level except in the case of a new college graduate and/or
- Previous experience teaching in the specific content area except in the case of a new college graduate.
LICENSES/CREDENTIALS:
- Valid Illinois State Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Endorsement in Physical Education in elementary grades ranges K5
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must have manual dexterity to type and write and minimal eye/hand/foot coordination levels.
- Must possess the physical agility to lift/move up to 30 pounds.
- Must possess the physical agility to bend stoop sit on floor climb stairs walk run and reach overhead.
- Must speak audibly so that others can clearly hear and understand in noisy outdoor situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Duties are usually performed in a school cafeteria gym or outside in a field/playground.
- Works in moderately noisy conditions.
- Works in and around moving objects and people.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Salary and Benefit information can be found on the Human Resources webpage. There are many opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation (stipends differentials extra duty pay etc. during the regular school year and in the summer.
- This is a position within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.
- This is an exempt position.
- Student Contact Days and other days stipulated on the work calendar in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
