Position Overview:
Sugar Creek Charter Schools mission is to eradicate generational poverty by providing a rigorous college and career preparatory education for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. We focus on academic preparation college and career readiness and life skills for success.
We are seeking a missionaligned passionate and knowledgeable Middle School Civics Teacher to join our team. This position teaches Civics to middle school students for high school credit requiring a strong command of content a developmentally appropriate instructional approach and a deep belief in the potential of every student.
The ideal candidate fosters civic awareness encourages critical thinking about government and citizenship and helps students build the foundation for lifelong engagement in their communities and democracy.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Classroom Management:
- Design and implement rigorous standardsaligned lesson plans that meet high school Civics course requirements for middle school students.
- Teach core concepts including U.S. government Constitution civil rights and responsibilities elections and current events.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and developmental needs of middle school learners.
- Foster a structured engaging and respectful classroom environment focused on active participation and critical thinking.
- Use assessments and data to monitor student understanding and adjust instruction as needed.
- Integrate technology projectbased learning and realworld applications to deepen student engagement and understanding.
Student Support & Engagement:
- Build positive relationships with students and maintain high expectations for behavior and academic performance.
- Implement socialemotional learning (SEL) practices to support student growth and classroom culture.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress achievements and areas for growth.
- Ensure a safe learning environment by actively supervising students and enforcing schoolwide behavior expectations.
Collaboration & Professional Growth:
- Embrace a growth mindset and actively seek and apply feedback to improve instruction.
- Collaborate with instructional coaches content teams and school leaders to support student success.
- Participate in ongoing professional development coaching and schoolwide initiatives.
- Contribute to the broader school community through team meetings school events and committees.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Political Science History Education or a related field (required).
- Valid North Carolina teaching license or eligibility for licensure in Middle Grades or Secondary Social Studies (preferred).
- Experience teaching middle school or high school Social Studies (preferred but not required).
- Strong classroom management skills and a passion for engaging students in civic learning.
