JOB DESCRIPTION
The Legal Assistantis responsible foropening preparing organizingmaintainingand monitoring the ongoing status of legal case files.The Legal Assistant responds to the needs of members of the public in person and by phone.TheLegal Assistant must havestrong organization skillsandattention to detail.The Legal Assistants duties varysomewhatwithjob assignmentbetweencivilcriminalor juvenilecases but include examining and correctlyidentifyingcase documentation and law enforcement informationto preparelegal documentsand develop andmaintainfull and complete case files.The Legal Assistant works closely with prosecuting attorneys and must be able to understand the facts of each case.The Legal Assistantattendstrialsas neededwith theprosecutingattorneypreparesexhibits audios andvideosand takesnotes of court activities and testimony.
TheLegal Assistantworksunder the direction of theOfficeManagerbuthaslatitudetoexercise independent judgment.The principal duties of theLegal Assistantare performed intheoffice.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(illustrative only and may vary by assignment)
Works closely with prosecuting attorneys to ensure their case needs are met correctly accurately and onschedule;
Manages assigned cases from intake through disposition including discovery requests and responses pleadings data entryetc.;
Monitors case files to ensure documents are ready for attorneys and data entry is complete andaccurate ensures that documents are filed intoappropriate folders updates and organizes file folders as needed and purges outdated files as directed and according to Office policies andprocedures;
Calendars and schedules hearings and appointments for the Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney schedules and coordinates meetings monitors calendar/schedule for required courtappearances;
Requests reports and certified documents for casepreparation;
Prepares a large variety of legal forms documents andreports;
Drafts discovery requests and responsesaffidavitsandnumerousother legaldocuments;
Files documents withcourts;
Receives notice of hearings enters hearing dates on theappropriate forms notifiesappropriate partiesofhearings;
Answers the phone and responds to the public attorneys victims and law enforcement at the front desk asneeded;
Printsorganizesandaccuratelyroutesincoming mail and other documentsasneeded;
Maintains files throughout the pendency of thecase;
Operates standard office equipment a personal computer andoperatesand maintains specialized office and case data entry and tracking systems and relatedequipment;
Operates andmaintainscase management system including electronic and paper files reviews and verifies file notes for accuracy and inputs into case managementsystem;
Answers inquiries and provides information from case files to law enforcement officers defense attorneys defendants andappropriate partiesaccording to Office policies andprocedures;
Provides legal secretarial support to prosecuting attorneys and coworkers asneeded;
Maintains strict confidentiality in allcases;
Performs other duties as assigned by the Twin Falls County ProsecutingAttorney;
Performs all work duties and activitiesin accordance withTwin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney policies and procedures.
POSITIONREQUIREMENTS:

Knowledgeof:

MINIMUMEXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Graduation from highschool preferably supplemented with anAssociates Degreeand
Minimum of two 2yearsofficeexperienceor
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skillsknowledgeand abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
Full-Time
