Job Summary:

  • The Peer Counselor role is part of the Behavioral Health team that supports ETS mission through creating a supportive environment where Participants feel empowered to pursue their goals for wellness and recovery.
  • Contributes to cooperative working relationships with clinical teammates supervisors and other staff within the agency.
  • The Peer Counselor selfidentifies as a person with lived experience and is willing to utilize their personal experience knowledge and insight to benefit Participants and the team. The Peer Counselor will empower Participants living with serious and persistent substance use disorder to identify goals that promote recovery while providing the support necessary to accomplish them. The Peer Counselor will be expected to work with a diverse population and must be sensitive to the culture religion language age gender and sexual orientation of the population served.

What you contribute to this role Responsibilities:

  • Help ETS succeed in carrying out our mission through working together with other staff to transform systems of harm and inequity to create different approaches to improving community health and safety through addressing substance use and homelessness.
  • Assist with the organizationwide initiative to reimagine our interconnectedness within our community to overcome the aspects of our society and organizational culture shaped by white supremacy and settler colonialism.
  • Contribute to creating a supportive environment where Participants feel empowered to pursue their goals for wellness and recovery. This may involve organizing wellness activities facilitating educational workshops and advocating for Participants needs within the community.
  • Offer oneonone and group peer support to Participants providing a safe and empathetic space for individuals to share their experiences and work towards their goals. This may involve offering guidance encouragement and practical assistance in navigating challenges related to substance use and mental health.
  • Facilitates or cofacilitates therapeutic and recreational groups and activities including WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan.
  • Transport MOUD medication to community partner (i.e. SYMPAC Respite etc)
  • Meets with patients in community partner settings (i.e. SYMPAC Respite etc)
  • Assists in the development and implementation of treatment plans
  • Presents a positive professional image of the agency to referral sources other service providers neighbors and the larger community.

Requirements

What you bring to this role Qualifications:

Credential (License Certification Provider One etc.

  • Certified Peer Specialist

Education and/or Relevant and Lived Experience (if applicable):

  • Highschool or GED.
  • Active restrictionfree Washington State Drivers License required

Knowledge and Skills:

  • An understanding of racial justice and social equity and a commitment to helping create an equitable environment for all ETS clients and Participants as well as fellow staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients Participants and staff from a wide variety of ethnic socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and verbal/ written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload work independently and complete tasks timely and efficiently.
  • Dependable able to work under pressure receptive to change willingness to learn cooperative approach to problem solving.
  • Flexible team player with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when handling highly sensitive information.
  • Ability to set boundaries resolve conflict and deescalate issues.
  • Computer literate with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change.

Additional Essential Information:

Physical Conditions and Requirements:

  • The employee may be exposed to illicit drug residues and fumes or other biohazardous materials when carrying out job functions. There is also potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens. ETS will provide employees with appropriate training to limit the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Policies and procedures are in place addressing each item specifically.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; frequently required to stand walk and kneel; occasionally to climb balance or stoop; rarely to crouch or crawl.
  • In addition the position frequently requires the employee to work outside in inclement weather.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close color and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
