Your role

We are looking for an experienced host for our afternoon radio show in Winnipeg. The host of Lactuel is a key player in a vibrant team a leader who thrives in the fastpaced highpressure environment. You must be knowledgeable about the affairs of Manitoba and the provinces Frenchspeaking community. You must also be aware of the issues affecting the residents of northwestern Ontario who receive our signal. The ability to go live and off script at a moments notice is highly valued. The host works closely with a small team to create a bold inquisitive peopleoriented program thats close to listeners. This is no caretaker role selfstarters only need apply.

You must have the integrity and selfconfidence to bring our programming to life. In their homes and cars on their computers and mobile devices you care about connecting with listeners. You think on your feet shine in the spotlight and aspire to inform entertain and enlighten our audiences.

As host of the Manitoba and northwestern Ontario afternoon radio show you are committed to staying connected with the news of the day with your listeners and with your team even after the microphone is turned off at the end of each show. You are an excellent storyteller who is innovative and highly motivated. Your interests are wideranging and you connect easily with people from all walks of life from politicians to school bus drivers. You thrive in a team environment.

Reporting to the shows Producer you will play a leadership role in preparing and presenting the afternoon currentaffairs show and establish close connections with audiences both on air and on social platforms. You will contribute substantially to the planning design and organization of the program proposing content ideas and conducting interviews on or off air; you will also interact with program participants.

Activities:

You perform a variety of tasks associated with the preparation and onair presentation of program material on radio television and/or digital platforms. You may be involved in developing and executing the program and the direction of the program can often be influenced by your knowledge and performance capabilities. Your work is governed by Corporation programming and/or journalistic policies and standards but there is a requirement for creativity initiative and independent judgment.

Key tasks:

• Contribute to the planning design and organization of programs within the context that the program is typically highly formatted; ensure the preparation of material for broadcast.

• Propose content/segment ideas suggest and line up guests or interviewees prepare background notes and questions interview on or off air and provide narration and linking continuity between program segments.

• Interact spontaneously with program participants such as guests and interviewees members of the audience and phonein callers.

• Maintain your expertise in fields related to program topics.

• Participate in public and/or community relations activities as appropriate to promote the program(s) and/or the Corporation.

• Present and host a weekday afternoon radio show.

• Establish and maintain connections with audiences and the general public via various social platforms.

• Have an excellent understanding of RadioCanada programming policies and Journalistic Standards and Practices.

As required perform the following tasks:

• Act as master of ceremonies narrator or interviewer on variety or other programs as well as at community events.

• Conduct research using a variety of sources.

• Edit program material.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

• University degree in journalism/communications or equivalent

• Five 5 or more years of comparable and relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the broadcasting industry and an understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to Manitoba and northwestern Ontario as well as to daily news

• Excellent reporting interviewing and writing skills

• Ability to generate original content/segment ideas and creative treatments

• Excellent communication skills

• Strong presentation style ease with live coverage and excellent interviewing skills

• Comfort with new and emerging technologies and a demonstrated ability to use same to engage audience

• Ability to evaluate and analyze a broad range of regional national and international issues

• Ability to tell stories with clarity

• Ease with live work

• Ability to present live events and breaking news

• Strong interpersonal and teamplaying skills

• Ability to be creative flexible and selfmotivated

• Bilingualism (English and French)
