Purpose:Under minimal supervision assist with the processing of district property taxes following established procedures for collection of tax revenue. Provide clerical services to the tax assessor/collector.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must have an Associates Degree or have a minimum of 48 semester hours of higher education coursework or pass a district test
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices
- Proficient in keyboarding 10key numerical data entry and file maintenance
- Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner to meet established deadlines
- Effective organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional demeanor and appearance
- Knowledge of the Texas Properties Tax Code
- Ability to use software to obtain tax records information and tax payment functions
- Ability to work effectively with cash flow
- Ability to do Microsoft Excel and Word
Experience:
- Three 3 years of experience with clerical/financial work
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Clerical Support
- Assist with the tax collection process.
- Courteously answer all taxpayer questions assist taxpayers in locating properties in the office or by phone and receive refer or handle incoming phone calls.
- Open and sort the mail.
- Mail taxpayer receipts when requested.
- Answer incoming calls take messages and route them to the proper party. Handle questions and requests that fall within level of responsibility
- Call in employee absences.
Records and Reports
- Process mortgage company statement requests and handle the mailing of tax statements.
- Receipt tax payments and maintain tax receipt file.
- Assist in preparing and sending tax statements notices and receipts as directed..
- Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents as required.
Other
- Oversee temporary employees.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
