Job Description
JOB TITLE: HVAC/R Technician
DIVISION: Facilities Management
DEPARTMENT: HVAC/R
REPORTS TO: Manager HVAC/R
CLASSIFICATION: NonExempt
POSITION TYPE: FullTime
SUMMARY: The HVAC/R Technician will install maintain and repair the HVAC/R systems throughout the Saint Louis Zoo. As an active member of Facilities Management this position will support the Zoos mission and advocate the Zoos core values and three keys.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following reflects Managements definition of essential functions for this position but does not restrict additional assigned tasks. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position.
- Inspect repair modify and install heating ventilating air conditioning refrigeration units and associated equipment.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and routine servicing of equipment including but not limited to greasing and oiling motors changing and tightening belts changing filters and cleaning condensers and evaporators.
- Utilize the CMMS work order system for work scheduling preventative maintenance programs and record keeping.
- Utilize the building automation system to monitor diagnose and ensure systems are operating at full efficiency.
- Analyze HVAC/R system requirements conduct research on new equipment and procedures and recommend new systems or modifications.
- Provide oncall weekend or nighttime event coverage if needed.
- Ensure that proper safety guidelines and usage of PPE are followed at all times.
- Know and understand the Zoo employee handbook and adhere to all stated disciplinary actions and personnel policies.
- Work in close collaboration with all Zoo internal departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 13 years of experience in the technical fields involving the maintenance and repair of heating ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
- HVAC certification associate or bachelors degree preferred.
- Universal Class EPA License preferred.
- Possession or the ability to obtain OSHA 10/30Hour Training certification.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Good attendance record and work ethic.
- Versatility flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
- Possession or the ability to obtain a Missouri Class E Drivers License is required for residents of Missouri.
All successful candidates for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and a drug test. As this is a safetysensitive role a negative drug test result is mandatory. The drug test screens for five substances including .
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to push pull bend squat stoop climb stairs or ladders and twist many times a day.
- Must be able to safely lift carry and load 50 pounds.
- Physical capacity to endure exposure to inclement weather dust heavy machinery restraint devices and hazardous chemicals. Use of proper PPE may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position will work in both a shop environment and outside. Significant exposure to weather is possible.
