Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs contact lens evaluations and fittings in accordance with the patients ocular needs ensuring integrity of the fit by using instrumentation.
- Provides patient training in the insertion removal and care of contact lenses through hands-on practice and written instructions.
- Provides follow-up lens assessments and/or refers patient back to original prescriber for verification of lens fit.
- Answers questions resolving patient-related contact lens problems.
- Provides thorough documentation of all of the above items in the patients medical record.
- Orders all contact lenses by accurately specifying lens parameters; verifies lens specifications on delivery prior to patient notification; maintains database of lenses ordered and received.
- Maintains inventory levels by auditing and ordering trial lenses and supplies.
- Reconciles invoices with statements while monitoring credits and exchanges.
- Maintains contact lens service agreements.
- Interfaces with all contact lens representatives.
- Ensures all contact lens charges are collected or submitted to billing department and reconciled at the end of the business day.
- Notifies patients following receipt of ordered lenses; follows the recall policy and procedure for unclaimed lenses.
- Schedules patients for contact lens appointments.
- Maintains knowledge of current technological developments in contact lenses and patient needs.
- Clean and maintain all tech areas exam rooms physician areas and patient waiting rooms.
- Ensure quality care of all patients.
- Participate in duties interdepartmentally as deemed necessary by clinical supervisor clinic team lead Administrator and/or doctor(s).
- Maintain practice and patient confidentiality at all times.
- Exhibit professional demeanor at all times while representing the practice.
- Participate in staff and educational meetings and training.
- Any other duties as assigned which are necessary to operate the clinic effectively and efficiently.
- Knowledge of Ophthalmic terminology and equipment.
- Assist in working up ALL physician patients prior to assigned physician arrival.
- Review the physicians plan for any testing that needs to be completed.
- Complete visual field testing ordered by the physician; photos OCT topography pachymetry color test etc. as needed.
- Question patient(s) as to what their chief complaint is and document it in the EHR software.
- Review medical history for accuracy and make changes in the EHR software as needed.
- Review patient(s) medication list for accuracy and update information in the EHR software as needed.
- Conduct a visual assessment of distance and near.
- Dilate and evaluate pupils and eye muscles.
- Conduct patient refraction and tonometry as needed.
- Prepare patients for laser procedures.
- Ensure quality care of all patients seen at ALL locations.
- Report any medical equipment disfunctions at any/ALL locations as needed.
- Check desk duties to ensure everything is completed prior to leaving for the day.
- Any other duties as assigned which are necessary to operate the clinic effectively and efficiently.
- Participate in duties interdepartmentally as deemed necessary by clinical supervisor clinic team lead Administrator(s) and/or doctor(s).
- Provide assistance to other clinic personnel as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or an equivalent GED.
- At least three to five years experience as an Ophthalmic Technician.
- Strong organizational analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently but also work effectively with others as a team to accomplish objectives and goals.
- Demonstrate self-motivation initiative and time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and follow strict schedules.
