Student Health Services Insurance COM:
Join the University of Central Florida (UCF) Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) Student Health Team as an Insurance Eligibility/Verification Specialist in the Business Offices Insurance Unit and add to our dedication to providing excellent healthcare to the community that we serve.
This position will operate from the Student Health Services satellite clinic at the College of Medicine Campus in Lake Nona.
The Opportunity:
The Insurance Eligibility/Verification Specialist I provides services for insurance verification eligibility and related medical support functions. Provides various administrative and office support functions for a clinical operation. Must maintain confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI). Student Health Services has a satellite clinic at the College of Medicine Campus. This position is part of the Insurance Department under the Main Campus and reports to the Business Manager at Main Campus.
This is a timelimited funding position. Employment is subject to the availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.
Responsibilities:
Verify the insurance eligibility for patients and analyze policy coverage in order to maintain patient accounts in EHR system.
Determine deductibles copayments and coinsurance for students and patients in participating insurance plans.
Verify that the insurance on file for patient appointments is active.
Update accounts with inactive insurance and contact patients for additional information.
Receive and verify patient insurance via multiple sources (inperson phone email Qualtrics kiosk International Insurance Pool) and determine network status.
Collect the payment from patients for student health fees copays and prior balances.
Perform applicable system searches when necessary to determine student status.
Assist with the appointments/referrals for departments and serve as the liaison between participating insurance plans and patients.
Answer telephone calls.
Greet patients and visitors and direct them to the appropriate office in Student Health Services.
Confirm patients medical insurance coverage to arrange for other services as needed within the assigned specialty Pod (e.g. laboratory primary care OB/GYN) with participating plans.
Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to the timely completion of all required university and college training.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who possess direct experience with insurance eligibility and verification.
Preference may be given to candidates proficient with medical terminology.
Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and how to appropriately use EMR in the performance of work.
Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working in a medical office setting.
Preference may be given to candidates with excellent communication skills at all organizational levels as well as with patients and insurance plans.

This position will operate from the Student Health Services satellite clinic at the College of Medicine Campus in Lake Nona.
The selected candidate will need to complete 23 months of training at the Main Campus before starting at the College of Medicine Campus.
The selected candidate must be willing to travel/work on occasion to Main Campus when necessary.
The selected candidate may be required to report to Main Campus if the provider at the College of Medicine is out or for mandatory trainings.
