DESCRIPTION:
Provides an overall educational experience for preschool age children in which each child can grow emotionally socially intellectually and physically according to his/her needs ability level and maturity.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITES:
1. Provides instruction individually and in groups in areas prescribed by the school district and the state.
2. Diagnoses student needs and provides activities to nurture the emotional social intellectual and physical development of the preschool child.
3. Establishes and maintains standards of child behavior appropriate to preschool children to achieve a functional and healthy classroom (learning) environment.
4. Develops lesson plans and instructional material as part of planned learning experiences to motivate preschool children.
5. Evaluates pupil emotional social intellectual and physical development maintains appropriate records prepares progress reports and communicates with parents on individual pupil progress.
6. Creates a functional and attractive environment for learning including displays bulletin boards learning centers instructional equipment etc.
7. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members and parents in assessing and helping to solve pupil health social and learning problems.
8. Maintains open continuous communication with parents through personal conferences and group meetings in the interest of pupil welfare and provides opportunities for parents to participate in the implementation and evaluation of the preschool program.
9. Maintains professional competence through participation in educational staff development and/or inservice activities.
10. Completes all required reports including student evaluations state forms equipment and material inventories requisitions program evaluations and lesson plans.
11. Establishes and maintains programs which coordinate services of special education preschool and state preschool.
12. Maintains awareness of community agencies and contacts these services when student needs so indicate.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Attends faculty and other meetings as required.
2. Administers tests as may be required.
3. Performs basic attendance accounting as required.
4. Assists in the selection of instructional materials supplies and equipment.
5. Prepares lunch counts and eats daily with students.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED OR RECEIVED:
1. Under the immediate direction of the school site administrator and under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Educational Projects.
2. Supervises instructional aides and parent volunteers when applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possession of valid California Children Center Permit or legal equivalent.
2. Minimum of 24 semester units of college course work in Early Childhood Education.
3. Knowledge of developmental needs of preschool age children.
4. Knowledge of State Preschool Regulation.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with preschool children and adults.
6. Knowledge of appropriate learning activities for preschoolers.
7. Ability to work with other adults in a teaming situation.
8. Awareness of preschool developmental needs of handicapped students.
SALARY: Placement on Preschool Teacher Salary Schedule
