Position Overview:
The Canisius University Department of Sociology Criminal Justice and Environmental Studies is seeking applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor position with the possibility of transitioning to a tenuretrack position for the 20252026 academic year beginning August 2025. This is a teachingfocused position with no research or service obligations. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching four sections per semester. Experience in some but not all of the courses listed below is :
- Criminal Law and Criminal Procedures
- Corrections and Restorative Justice
- Criminal Courts
- Police and the Community
- Professional Ethics
- Criminology
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Criminology Criminal Justice or a closely related field or a JD with significant experience in criminal law and justice systems. Candidates who are ABD or hold an MA in Criminology Criminal Justice or a related discipline will also be considered. Demonstrated expertise and the ability to teach the specified courses effectively are essential. Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary Range: $58000 to $65000 annually.
*Please note that the compensation information is a good faith estimate of the base pay for this position. The selected candidates actual base pay will be based on jobrelated nondiscriminatory factors including about the total compensation package for this position will be provided during the interview process.
Benefits are available the first of the month after the fulltime facultys date of hire and include health dental and vision insurance life and longterm disability insurance and retirement plan enrollment is available to fulltime faculty with contribution from University after one year. Tuition benefits are also available for fulltime faculty and their qualified dependents.
