Job Summary:

Duties and basic tasks include: Performing the inspection maintenance and repair of; traffic signals lighting bluestake ITS tunnel and/or pump stations. Performing at an entry level for the Signal Lighting and Technical Electrical Technical series. This position requires employees to participate in rotation based on a 24 hour call back program and must be able to respond to duty post within 30 minutes.

The employee must be able to possess the ability to work from elevated heights in stressful situations. During weather events that cause or could cause hazardous road conditions overtime may be required; including working outside of normal reporting hours nights weekends and holidays.

Note: Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications listed below.

Job Duties:

Signal/Lighting/Electrical Technician 1 (SLATE 1: $25.4342/hr. Grade 18


Employee performs a broad scope of basic level electrical electronic and/or mechanical duties related to the Inspection installation maintenance and/or repair of traffic signals roadway lighting pump stations tunnels intelligent transportation systems and utility locating record keeping and/or trains on motorized vehicles and powered/nonpowered equipment and tools to properly perform assigned work contract management quality assurance and record keeping of work and project activities. Conferring and coordinating with other crew emergency repairs on one or more of the following: traffic signals roadway lighting pump stations tunnels intelligent transportation systems and utility locating.


Signal/Lighting/Electrical Technician 2 (SLATE 2: $27.2283/hr. Grade 19


Employee performs a broad scope of intermediate level electrical electronic and/or mechanical duties related to the Inspection installation maintenance and/or repair of traffic signals roadway lighting pump stations tunnels Intelligent transportation systems and utility locating record keeping and/or trains on motorized vehicles and powered/nonpowered equipment and tools to properly perform assigned work contract management quality assurance and record keeping of work and project activities. Conferring and coordinating with other crew emergency repairs on one of or more of the following: traffic signals roadway lighting pump stations tunnels intelligent transportation systems and utility locating.


Signal/Lighting/Electrical Technician 3 (SLATE 3: $30.0520/hr. Grade 20


Employee performs a broad scope of advanced level electrical electronic and/or mechanical duties related to the Inspection installation maintenance and/or repair of traffic signals roadway lighting pump stations tunnels Intelligent transportation systems and utility locating record keeping and/or trains on motorized vehicles and powered/nonpowered equipment and tools to properly perform assigned work duties. Performs contract management quality assurance and record keeping of work and project activities. Conferring and coordinating with other crew emergency repairs on one or more of the following: traffic signals roadway lighting pump stations tunnels intelligent transportation systems and utility locating. Lead duties Provides advice and resolves problems; participates in work activities as required; schedules and assigns work activities; approves inspection project documentation reports; determines and selects alternatives in materials or equipment has authority to inspect and determine the need for repairs or replacement recommends ordering of materials and equipment; works under supervision while providing training to lower level technicians; interprets specification requirements. Evaluates and rates technical skills and qualification of other techs as directed.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in:
Use care and maintenance of common and specialized tools equipment and materials related to the trade; plans sketches and schematics of electrical electronic mechanical and utility systems; national and local electrical codes; methods and procedures for installing repairing diagnosing and inspecting traffic signals lighting ITS utility tunnel and pumps station devices common safety practices; electrical electronic mechanical ventilation and public utility theory.

Skill in:
Applying and making interpretations of federal state and agency laws rules regulations policies and procedures pertaining to work activities safe practices and public contact; electrical wiring and repair; using proper materials and tools vehicles and equipment to perform work activities within established work methods; oral and written communications; problem solving and interpersonal relationships; fundamental knowledge in reading and understanding blueprints sketches schematics of electrical and electronic components and circuits; methods and procedures for installing repairing diagnosing related equipment and appurtenances; applying electrical and electronic principles.

Ability in:
Comprehend directions; work independently; use proper materials tools vehicles and equipment specific to work activity; plan coordinate analyze and perform multiple tasks; to learn computer systems traffic control methods practices and procedures federal state and agency laws rules regulations policies and procedures pertaining to work activities; apply safety practices and public contact/customer service practices; apply and interpret procedures and practices established for the work section; comply with all safety rules regulations and established practices; perform basic project level planning and coordination conduct material quantity takeoffs for repairs; apply selfstudy to increase and expand knowledge base; communicate effectively and work under stressful conditions.

Selective Preference(s):

SLATE 1 High school diploma/GED; Entry Level of electrical/electronics background and troubleshooting; Ability to obtain a Class A CDL


SLATE 2 High school diploma/GED; Foreman level electrical/electronics background; One year of experience equivalent to a SLATE 1


SLATE 3 High school diploma/GED; Foreman level electrical/electronics background; One year of experience equivalent to a SLATE 2

PreEmployment Requirements:

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid classappropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C. R210207.11.

(Systems)
Valid CDL permit exam at time of appointment and obtain a Arizona Class A Commercial Drivers License within 6 months.


(Pump House)
Valid CDL permit exam at time of appointment and obtain a Arizona Class A Commercial Drivers License within 6 months with Xendorsement (Hazmat and tanker)


SLATE 1
No experience required


SLATE 2
(Systems/ITS): Level I IMSA Training /Certifications
(Pump House): 1 year Traffic Signals experience or 1 year roadway lighting experience. Confined spaces training.
(Electronics): 1 year traffic signal controllers and testing experience


SLATE 3
(Systems/ITS): Level II IMSA Training/Certifications
(Pump House): 3 years traffic signals experience OR 3 years roadway lighting experience. Confined spaces training.
(Electronics): 3 years traffic signal controllers and testing experience. IMSA trained and certified.
