RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
Cocktails & Cosmos Development:
- Brainstorm and select C&C show topics in coordination with Planetarium Leadership.
- Storyboard the show flow for unique Friday night events that supports the live and interactive presenting style.
- Suggest supporting visual ideas in collaboration with the Visualization Manager.
- Research and write talking points specific for each Cocktails & Cosmos show.
- Suggest cocktail recipes and cocktail names for specific shows.
- Identify primary and backup presenter(s) for each show.
- Coordinate secondary presenters and the topics that they will cover each week.
- Coordinate other planetarium staff participation in cocktails and cosmos.
- Plan and lead C&C development meetings with the goal of planning C&C events three weeks in advance.
- Acts as point of contact for weekly presenter.
Presentation:
- Present live and interactive astronomy and space science shows in an engaging professional manner.
- Present 12 C&C events per month 6075 min length).
- Act as standby presenter for other C&C events.
- Maintain a wellrounded and robust knowledge of astronomical topics and current space exploration missions.
- Present 40minute live interactive astronomy and space science shows in the planetarium as part of daily operations.
- Coordinate with planetarium management to host and present special event programs.
- Troubleshoot minor software and hardware issues to prevent interruption of the show schedule.
- Assist planetarium and concessions staff as needed in daily operations such as show presentation and concessions sales and ticketing.
Visualization:
- Collaborate with viz team to create promotional content for upcoming C&C for social media.
- Test and modify existing control panels and scripts in collaboration with the Visualization Manager.
- Create new visuals for each Friday evening show in collaboration with the Visualization Manager.
- Test control panel before each Friday evening show to ensure all visuals play smoothly.
- Troubleshoot software problems before during and after Friday evening shows.
- Update preshow slides with the correct C&C ad every week.
- Provide valuable input for modification and improvement of created visuals.
- Coordinate with viz team to maintain quality of visuals in the planetarium and to update visuals with the newest information.
Engagement & Outreach:
- Assist in the presentation of virtual planetarium programming.
- Assist outreach programming and presentations as needed.
- Improve professional relationships both internally and externally by collaborating with other departments at the Center and organizations in the astronomy community.
- Brainstorm with the planetarium team to envision and evaluate ideas to promote planetarium involvement and growth within and outside the Center.
Customer Experience:
- Through interpersonal skills and effective communication engage with guests to build customer relationships and aid in giving visitors the best possible planetarium experience.
- Assist visitors in exploring and understanding exhibits throughout the USSRC and planetarium shows scheduled.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education: Bachelors degree in Astronomy/Astrophysics Planetary Science Physics Space Science or relevant Science field.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Preferred masters degree in Astronomy/Astrophysics Physics Space Science or relevant Science field.
- Preferred experience presenting science topics to large audiences 50100 with both technical and nontechnical backgrounds. Experience presenting science topics to a wide range of ages 560 yrs. old).
- Preferred experience in operating a planetarium.
Physical Requirements
This position has the following special requirements:
- Walking climbing (stairs) to access other departments & buildings and to experience the training center floor.
- Sitting and standing for long periods of time developing and presenting lectures.
- Carrying lifting equipment and supplies up to 25 lbs waist high.
- Bending kneeling reaching to store / retrieve supplies.
- Reading sight wrist movements feeling to operate computer terminal research & review lecture materials operate automobile during travel.
- Talking hearing to present lectures answer questions from trainees assist guests and interact with employees.
- This position involves working in a climatecontrolled office environment and walking to / from buildings in various weather conditions. This position may require occasional travel to educational conferences.

Expected Hours of Work: Monday through Friday (must be available to work Friday nights until 10:00pm
