A School Counselor at Saint Paul serves as a member of a counseling team which strives to assist students in developing a realistic understanding of themselves helps students to develop positive relationships with others facilitates student academic growth aids students in becoming selfdirective and guides students in planning and preparing for postsecondary experiences.A School Counselor advances the schools mission in Catholic education while working with the counseling team to provide academic personal and vocational counseling which will assist students to develop their potential and enable them to make intelligent plans and wise decisions for their future. As the newest and largest Catholic coeducational regional junior/senior high school of Worcester County Saint Paul is an educational ministry sponsored and operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester. The duties and responsibilities of the Senior School Counselor would include but not be limited to:Serve as chief senior college counselor Write and submit senior college letters of recommendation Coordinate standardized testing in the school including school day SAT exams and Advanced Placement testingParticipate in regularly scheduled meetings to discuss students in need of support Create Success Plans for senior students with 504 or IEP accommodations Communicate Success Plans with members of the faculty Keep members of the administration informed of students on IEP and 504 plans Plan organize and present college planning evenings for junior and senior students and parents Respond to student mental health concerns as needed Assist in the scheduling process for rising seniors Advise rising seniors on mandatory and elective courses available to them Communicate with and advise students struggling academically and their parents Make child in danger reports if/when necessary Qualifications/Abilities: To work with grade 12 students with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals To organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students parents school administrators and other staff including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive To maintain professionalism and privacy in handling confidential information A demonstrated understanding of current school counseling practices and standards A working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word Excel Power Point etc. and college and career readiness technology platforms (e.g. Scoir) A degree in school counseling social work or related fieldReview of applications will begin immediately and the position will remain open until filled.
