A SpeechLanguage Pathology Assistant (SLPA) isa support professional who works under the direct supervision of a licensed and ASHAcertified SpeechLanguage Pathologist (SLP).SLPAs deliver individualized instruction to students on IEPs under the direction and supervision of a licensed SLP. This position is paid on the teaching salary schedule but pays into the PEERS retirement system.
Must hold a bachelors degreeand hold avalid teaching certificate in any preK12 area.

Purpose Statement
The job of Speech Language Pathologist is done for the purpose of identifying students with communication
disorders; and planning and implementing appropriate treatment to minimize adverse impact on student
success.
This job reports to Building Principal and Executive Director Student Support Services

Skills Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tastks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: utilizing conflick resolution techniques; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records; analyzing data; applying curriculum and instructional techniques; comparing results; and facilitating meetings.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percents and/or ratios; reviewand interpret highly technical information write technical materials and/or speak persuasively to implement desiredactions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competenciesrequired to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: anatomy and physiology of speech and hearingmechanisms and disorders; principles and practices of speech and language therapy; and pertinent codes policiesregulations and/or laws; concepts of grammar and punctuality.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities meetings and/or events; gather collate and/or classify data; and use basicjobrelated equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizingdefined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to workwith a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize jobrelated equipment. Problem solving isrequired to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation ofguidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorilyperform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups;utilizing specialized equipment in communication disorders; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines andschedules; working as part of a team; working with detailed information/data; maintaining effective workingrelationships; and translating therapy data into meaningful educational activities; working flexible hours.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; providinginformation and/or advising others; utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform thejobs functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organizations services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: somelifting carrying pushing and/or pulling some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant fine fingerdexterity. Generally the job requires 30 sitting 30 walking and 40 standing. The job is performed under minimaltemperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
