POSITION SUMMARY:

A Lead Inclusion Specialist is a special education or general education teacher who provides coaching for teachers and staff around evidencebased instructional practices inclusive practices and behavioral practices to ensure students are taught within the least restrictive environment. The Lead Inclusion Specialist will be assigned to work with one school under the direction of the Director of Special Education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Demonstrate the expertise in and ability to coach and model HighLeverage practices and effective coteaching strategies including coplanning coinstruction and coassessment in an inclusive classroom environment.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to coach and model classroom adaptations to meet the needs of students.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to coach and model the implementation of accommodations with fidelity.
  4. Work with Special Education Coordinators to improve the delivery of specially designed instruction by both general and special education teachers.
  5. Builds professional rapport with students and staff.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to model and coach structured teaching or a willingness to become trained in structured teaching.
  7. Help schedule and coordinate agendas with school administration for visits from Maryland Coalition for Inclusive Education (MCIE).
  8. Shadow and support staff from MCIE during their visits.
  9. Lead learner planning meetings with school staff for complex learners.
  10. Work with school staff to complete the action planning steps created from each MCIE visit.
  11. Have check in meetings with MCIE staff between MCIE visits to receive feedback and support in implementation of action plans.
  12. Work with school staff and Special Education Coordinators on scheduling to ensure resources are aligned to meet the requirements of IEPs.
  13. A member of the Special Education Improvement and Leadership teams.
  14. Other duties deemed appropriate by the Director of Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. At least 5 years of experience as a teacher with experience teaching students with disabilities in an inclusive public school setting.
  2. Experience supporting students with complex support needs in an inclusive environment.
  3. Ability to demonstrate an understanding of specially designed instruction for students with disabilities in an inclusive classroom.
  4. Special Education or General Education Teaching License Masters in special education strongly preferred

  1. Experience implementing evidencebased interventions
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences specifically racially ethnically socioeconomically and other marginalized communities to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
  3. Practice confidentially.
  4. Models professional moral and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions including nondiscriminatory and cultural inclusion practices by respecting the worth dignity and individual beliefs of others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students staff and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
