Title: GA Preprofessional University Research Symposium/Office of Student Research Fall 2024 Spring 2025

This position will spend 10 hrs. a week working on Graduate School responsibilities and 10 hrs. a week working on Office of Student Research responsibilities.
Graduate School responsibilities for this position provide planning coordination and management for the University Research Symposium.
Specific duties include:
1. Become familiar with previous planning coordination and operation of the Symposium
event. Learn Excel InDesign Publisher and InfoReady if not experienced with this
software.
2. Create web confirmation listings on a weekly basis during registration to keep registrants and mentors up to date on mentor approvals.
3. Create Guidelines for symposium.
4. Create and test InfoReady registration and Access databases used for manipulation of
data for day of reports.
5. Create promotional materials digital images emails and relays throughout the year
to encourage participation enlighten faculty inform students and university
community.
6. Make decisions on forms to be utilized presenters name badge design supplies
order.
7. Update Statistics pertaining to the Symposium.
8. Assist with layouts for the Ballroom for all sessions send to the Bone staff.
9. Create detailed oral presentation location maps with instructions to the locations of
each departmental event to post on web and in Ballroom on the day of the event.
10. Go to warehousecount easels do maintenance. Unpack new easels.
11. Prepare online work order with instructions for facilities management to move easels
from warehouse and materials from Graduate School Office to Bone Student Center
on day of the event.
Office of Student Research (OSR) facilitates OSR events (Image of Research) and programming (Undergraduate Research Support Program) to increase opportunities for student research and dissemination.
Specific duties include:
1. Manage student program information/create spreadsheets (Excel) to track student information participation in OSR programs.
2. Learn research opportunity databases and assist undergraduate students to identify research opportunities that align with their interests.
3. Work with students to submit quality images (using Photoshop) for Image of Research and assemble slideshows (Powerpoint).
4. Proofread student abstracts and applications create abstract pamphlet (MS Word).
5. Oral communication and public speaking: Student should have undergraduate research experience and the ability to speak on the value of research experiences.
6. Assist OSR website maintenance social media communication (Facebook Twitter); email communications.
7. Hold Office hours (in person/Zoom) while also working on OSR event planning/communication.
8. Assist with transportation set up and display of Image of Research Exhibit.
9. Represent OSR at campus events setup/teardown of OSR displays (Open Houses etc..
$1510 per month
1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in the Technology/Project Management Sequence Communications or Creative Technologies programs. Applicants pursuing a graduate degree in other programs are not eligible.
20 hrs. a week between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday Friday with hours split between The Graduate School Office and The Office of Student Research equally.
