Department Overview

The Department of Urology at OHSU is committed to providing the highest quality stateoftheart care for adult urology patients. Our physicians are recognized leaders in their fields have advanced fellowship training in urological subspecialties and are expert highvolume surgeons. We consider it a privilege to be able to offer urologic care to our patients and continually strive to provide it with a personalized patientcentered and compassionate focus. This positions home clinic is located in the Adult Urology clinic in CHH on the South Waterfront with a second location at Adventist Health Portland. The clinic comprises multiple physicians and APPs who treat the spectrum of urologic conditions. The nurse team includes three RNs and three LPNs. Other support staff include patient access specialists and MAs.

Function/Duties of Position

The practice specializes in providing urologic care for adults. Services include catheterizations specimen collections prostate/testicular biopsies cystoscopies cystograms lupograms retro urethrograms calypso beacon gold seed placements urodynamics vasectomies stent exchanges/removals/placements voiding trials medication administration (BCG Lupron Trimix Xiaflex testosterone pellets Botox) Foley placement catheter irrigations and dilations.

A Registered Nurse (RN) working in the Department of Urologyis a member of a multidisciplinary team and has the primary responsibility for and provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients. This includes representing the practice both inperson and on the telephone other OHSU departments and nonOHSU facilities. The RN assesses patient and family needs develops a plan of care implements and evaluates the care delivered. The RN is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards core values and with a commitment to service excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • 1 year RN experience
  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • Current unencumbered Washington State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS must not expire during orientation
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years or more of recent experience working in inpatient urology med/surg unit or ICU
  • 1 year or more recent experience working in urology ambulatory clinic
  • National certification in urology nursing
  • 1 year or or more recent experience with telephone triage
