Job Summary:The Assistant Director Student Leadership Programming creates comprehensive opportunities for leadership development and campus engagement for the entire campus population in assigned department. Assists in developing strategic plans and goals policies and procedures staff development and assessment and evaluation plans for the office. Provides oversight to plan execute and host leadership and student development focused events and programming.
Additional Department Summary:Serves as the departments primary facilitator in creating comprehensive opportunities for leadership development and campus engagement for the entire campus population. Focuses on strong collaboration purposefully defined programs and building effective student leaders through intentional advising. Serves as the primary advisor of the studentled Homecoming board which plans and implements campuswide signature homecoming programs in conjunction with campus partners as well as the UA Homecoming Steering & Advisory Committee. Represents the Director when necessary. Assists in administrative projects including developing strategic plans and goals policies and procedures staff development and assessment and evaluation plans for the office. Provides oversight to plan execute and host leadership and student development focused events for University Programs to include but not be limited to leadership conferences guest speaker series skilldevelopment focused events and event programs focused on divisional strategic priorities. Coordinates with vendors oncampus partners and other stakeholders to execute event needs. Works with students and staff on the comprehensive event planning process including: organization management risk management financial and marketing plans best practices research and other logistical details of programming and event planning. Provide professional presence and oversight at events. Recruits selects and trains qualified student leaders and student staff for the UP team and the UA Homecoming Student Board to plan execute host and market campuswide programming. Leads department initiatives to expand crosscampus collaboration through programming resource allocation and knowledge sharing. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing enforcing and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures. Holding staff accountable for completion of required training. Completes required training and promoting a safe hospitable and respectful workplace.
Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors degree and four 4 years of student life/student affairs experience; OR masters degree and two 2 years of student life/student affairs experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to work early mornings and frequent nights and weekends.
Skills and Knowledge:Ability to be flexible with work schedule. Excellent written and verbal communications skills along with strong interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Knowledge of student development and the ability to work with a population of students and staff. Skills in leadership programming and/or student development event planning and staff management. Demonstrated knowledge and ability in budget development and monitoring. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems effectively and independently. Demonstrated commitment to supporting all students.
Preferred Qualifications:Masters degree in higher education communication leadership or a related field. Three 3 years of professional experience in student leadership development programming or activities. Experience working within a higher education (university or college) environment. Graduate or professional experience in student leadership programming development organizational leadership and advising.
