Job Description
The Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech invites applications for a General Chemistry Laboratory Instructor. Teaching assignments will be in the General Chemistry Laboratory (e.g. Virginia Tech Courses CHEM 1045/1046. Duties include preparation of course materials (including laboratory design and updating) presentation of topics coordination of graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) involved in instruction grading assisting students individually and other such activities as may be required to accomplish instruction.
Required Qualifications
A Masters Degree in Chemistry or a closely related field is required; the degree is required at the time of appointment.
Candidate must be an effective teacher in undergraduate chemistry courses.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures applicable to chemistry teaching labs.
Ability to provide coordination/supervision to leaders of chemistry laboratory sections.
Ability to prepare understandable and accurate chemistry laboratory protocols.
Skill with the operation and routine user maintenance of scientific instruments used in chemistry teaching laboratories
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching general chemistry lab.
Skill in the use of Atomic Absorption UVVisible spectrometer and KarlFischer Titrator instruments.
Ability in scientific writing evidenced by publications of scientific articles or literature.
Preference will be given to candidates who have a Doctoral degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.
