Job Description

School Year

Position:Special Education Paraprofessional

Location:Pratt Elementary

Supervisor:Site Principal Jay Rotert

Reports to:Assigned Special Education Teacher Building Principal and Director of Special Services

Days/Hours: 180 days/7 hours daily

Stipend: (Mild Moderate) A 5 stipend will be paid from the (overall Base Salary)

Status:Exempt

Qualifications:

48 Hours College Credit OR Passing Score on Paraprofessional Test High School Diploma or Equivalent Completion of Paraprofessional Training Required by the OSDE CPI Certificate CPR and First Aid Certificate Obtain a Tiered Certification Certificate as specified by the OSDE. Pass the National Criminal History Check qualifications with the OSDE/OSBI.

Have a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) diplomaPLUS:

  • Option A:
    Hold an associates degree (or higher)
    OR
  • Option B:
    Complete at least two years 48 credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education.
    OR
  • Option C:
    Pass the Oklahoma General Education (OGET) Test. (SeeOffice of Educational Quality and Accountabilityfor testing.
    OR
  • Option D:
    Pass the Praxis ParaProfessional Assessment Test (Passing score is 455
  • Pass an Oklahoma Criminal Background Check
    • Application for Oklahoma Title I Paraprofessional Credential
    • $10 processing fee (check cashiers check or money order) made payable to the Oklahoma State Department of Education (will be required if hired for this position)

Job Goal:

Provides adult support to small groups or oneonone with an individual student to assist the student(s) in unique educational goals.

Classification:Nonexempt

Evaluation:Annually by Supervising Teacher and Site Principal

Physical Demands:

Regular Requirements:

Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead above the shoulder and horizontally; repetitively use fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 50 pounds.

Occasional Requirements:Lift/move up to 100 pounds

Visual Requirements:Close distance color peripheral depth perception ability to adjust focus

Hearing/Speaking Requirements:Adequate to exchange information

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Notethese duties vary based upon the individual students needs and individualized education plans. Typically this position calls for an individual to assist the Special Education Teacher in fulfilling academic needs through pullout services to receive academic intervention and strengthen essential reading and mathematics skills.

Duties related to this position:

Assists with instruction errands and copies related to the assigned student(s).

* Cleans and maintains an efficient work area.

Attends IEP and other meetings and training as requested.

Alert the assigned teacher of concerns related to the student(s).

Maintains confidentiality of student information.

Compliance with all federal state and local laws board policies and procedures.

Utilizes professional behavior in all schoolrelated interactions.

Assists teacher in monitoring students progress toward academic and behavioral IEP goals.

Reinforces learning in small groups or with an individual student while the teacher works with other students.

Assists the teacher in observing recording and charting behavior.

Assists the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management.

Provides oneonone tutoring if scheduled when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher.

Scores objective tests and papers and maintains appropriate records for teachers.

Carries out instructional programs designed by the teacher.

Works with the teacher to develop classroom schedules.

Operates and maintains classroom equipment.

Supervises children in the hallway lunchroom and playground.

Performs all other tasks as a supervisor may assign.

Other duties might include:

Accompanies students to the cafeteria for meals assists them with getting and eating meals and cleans up after meals.

Accompanies students to classes or therapy services monitors behavior (intervening as needed) and assists with classwork.

Assists students with motor balance social and life skills.

Assists students with personal care including dressing toileting and diapering.
