Job Description

Job Summary:

The Staff Residential Advisor (Staff RA) is responsible for supporting the overall student experience within the residence halls. Staff RAs serve as community leaders safety advocates and administrative liaisons who help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all residents.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Build meaningful relationships with residents and foster a sense of community.
  • Promote a respectful clean and collaborative living space.
  • Support and enforce university policies and community standards.
  • Assist with resolving conflicts and promoting open respectful communication.
  • Report policy violations safety concerns and maintenance issues to the appropriate departments.
  • Participate in scheduled hall coverage including evening weekend and holiday rotations.
  • Conduct regular rounds respond to incidents and complete necessary documentation.
  • Support movein moveout and room change processes.
  • Assist with emergency procedures and fire drills.
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Collaborate with the Residence Director and Residential Life team to enhance residential programming and student support.


Expectations:

  • Demonstrate professionalism dependability and discretion at all times.
  • Maintain regular communication with Residential Life staff.
  • Remain on campus throughout the academic term including break periods as scheduled.
  • Serve as a role model for campus policies and community standards.
  • Early return for the fall semester: Fall arrival (RA training for 1 week) starting 2 weeks before the semester starts. Orientation Responsibilities: Expect to be working/on call until classes begin.
  • Early return for the spring semester: Available to welcome and orient new students during Orientation.
  • Late departure after Graduation: Close buildings complete move out process.
  • GPA of 3 or higher passing DC grades compliance with Student Code of Conduct and other MIU policies.
  • Check email daily and respond promptly to emails from Residential Life Department and RDs
