Job Summary/Basic Function

The Director of the Center for Wellbeing and Community Engagement is a dynamic and visionary leader and leads the newly formed Center for Wellbeing and Community Engagement a cornerstone of our MaryWELL initiative dedicated to fostering holistic inclusive and sustainable community wellness. This role is pivotal in enhancing Maryvilles commitment to holistic student development by encouraging community engagement purpose and belonging.

The Director will develop and oversee initiatives that deepen students connection to the local and global community support their spiritual growth enhance their offcampus experiences and foster a sense of social responsibility and civic engagement. The Director will also collaborate with various stakeholders to expand national servicelearning opportunities and cultural immersion trips and support the overall offcampus student experience including online learners.

Reporting to the Dean of Student Wellness this role requires a visionary approach to building programs that promote access opportunity and transformative experiences across the Maryville community.

The Director will lead the planning and implementation of Maryville Reaches Out (MRO) the universitys signature servicelearning initiatives (including MRO Beyond MRO Over the Holidays and MRO Spring Break) and align its mission with the 8 Dimensions of Wellness to enhance student belonging and purpose and belonging.

Formal PolicySetting Responsibilities:
1. Community Engagement Policies: Develop policies for student participation in servicelearning civic responsibility and health promotion to ensure safety inclusiveness and impact.
2. Risk Management: Define protocols to ensure safety in offcampus and travelbased servicelearning programs.
3. Code of Conduct Integration: Develop policies integrating community engagement expectations with the Student Code of Conduct fostering social responsibility respect and ethical behavior.
4. Access and Opportunity Standards: Implement policies specific to the Centers programs to promote belonging in all community engagement and wellness initiatives.
5. Partnership Management: Establish guidelines for building and sustaining partnerships with organizations that share the Centers mission.

Routine DecisionMaking:
1. Program and Event Coordination: Manage schedules destinations partnerships resources for community engagement wellness initiatives and cultural immersion trips ensuring alignment with objectives and safety standards.
2. Resource Allocation and Staffing: Oversee budget allocation task assignments and staffing for programs including the Assistant Director student workers and volunteers.
3. OffCampus and Online Engagement: Approve strategies to enhance offcampus and online student experiences fostering belonging and access to resources.
4. Student Participation and Recognition: Assess eligibility for servicelearning wellness programs and immersion trips.
5. Community Partnership Management: Prioritize and maintain collaborations with community organizations to align with Maryvilles mission and program goals.
6. Spiritual Programming Requests: Review and approve spiritual engagement activities that support diverse faiths and adhere to university guidelines.

Formal Supervisory Responsibility:
1. Supervision and Staff Development: Oversee the Assistant Director student workers interns and volunteers providing training task delegation performance evaluations and professional development.
2. Conflict Resolution: Address conflicts among staff student workers or community partners to ensure a positive and collaborative work environment.
3. Budget Management: Manage the Centers budget ensuring financial decisions align with Maryvilles policies and support program and partnership goals.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Strong knowledge of servicelearning principles wellness and health promotion theories community engagement and spiritual development.
2. Familiarity with supporting commuter and online student populations to enhance their sense of belonging and engagement.
3. Familiarity with ethical guidelines legal regulations and best practices related to service and spiritual life programs.
4. Understanding the 8 Dimensions of Wellness and their connection to student wellbeing.
5. Knowledge of budget management and resource allocation in a university setting.

Required skills or abilities
1. Proven leadership and team management experience with staff and students.
2. Strong communication skills for working with diverse populations and stakeholders.
3. Effective organizational and project management abilities to handle multiple priorities.
4. Expertise in wellness programming and experiential learning fostering holistic development.
5. Cultural competency to design inclusive programs that promote access and global citizenship.

Formal education:
Bachelors degree in Higher Education Administration Community Engagement Public Health Social Work International Relations or a related field with at least 3 years of professional experience. Masters degree preferred.
Relevant leadership or management experience in a university or college setting particularly in service learning or spiritual life programming.

Unusual working conditions:
1. Evening and Weekend Work: Events programs and travel including cultural immersion and community engagement may require evening and weekend availability.
2. Travel Requirements: Plan coordinate and occasionally accompany students on domestic and international trips with extended time away from campus as needed.
3. Dynamic Work Environments: Work in varied settings including partner sites outdoor locations and domestic/international destinations often in nontraditional environments.
4. ProblemSolving: Quickly address logistical challenges emergencies and cultural sensitivities during offcampus programs.
