Roche Diagnostics acquired Stratos Genomics (SBX Nanopore Sequencing) in 2020 for its novel Sequencing by eXpansion (SBX) technology. SBX uses unique applications from chemistry biochemistry electrochemistry and protein engineering to sequence DNA by nanopore in rapid time with high accuracy and low cost.
The SBX Engineering team is passionate and dedicated to our SBX technology and the impact high throughput lowcost DNA sequencing will have on patient outcomes. We are looking for individuals who share this passion and are excited to join a dynamic crossfunctional and collaborative group. The right candidate will be selfdriven and highly motivated to quickly learn new skills and techniques in order to help advance rapidly evolving projects.
This role will be responsible for the and development of processes and instrumentation to support SBX technology. This will include significant time in the lab performing both routine and experimental protocols. There will be opportunities to assist with hardware design software development and process development.

The Opportunity:
Run critical production instruments independently
Contribute to design development validation and support of custom instrumentation
Apply broad knowledge to improve instrument functionality including hardware software microfluidics automation optics thermal and protocol integration
Validate new or improved processes and production equipment
Troubleshoot issues that arise within the current protocols and processes; propose and implement solutions
Work in an interdisciplinary team to develop and coordinate the requirements and design specifications
Support projects that are immediately relevant to company milestones in a fastpaced environment
Use technical writing skills to generate reports and documents in a timely manner.
Maintain a clean and organized personal and communal lab space
Adhere to Roche Diagnostics Seattle policies and support management decisions and goals in a positive professional manner
Who You Are:
You have a B.S. in Bioengineering Biosciences Biotechnology Physical Sciences and Engineering or related field
You have 3 years of laboratory and/or laboratory automation experience
You have prior experience building prototypes and optimizing hardware and software systems for biological experimentation.
You are comfortable with operating custom fluidic handling instrumentation
You have an understanding of complex systems: motion control fluidics thermal and microfluidic consumables
You have prior process improvement experience
You have mastered basic laboratory techniques (e.g. pipetting solution preparation etc..
You have experience in collecting and organizing data to report
You have experience in using engineering concepts to gather and analyze information
You have experience writing and maintaining standard operating procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
You have prior experience with Automation and scripting
You have prior data analysis using python/matlab or similar
You have prior experience with microfluidics
You have > 5 years of laboratory experience
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Washington State is $. Actual pay will be determined based on experience qualifications geographic location and other jobrelated factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
