Overview

This is a fulltime position consisting of four 8hour shifts per week 11 am 7 pm or 3 pm 11 pm. The Emergency Mental Health Crisis Center is a special unit of Childrens Mercy Emergency Department specifically designed to care for children experiencing a behavioral health emergency. The therapeutic environment provides not only care but assessment treatment recommendations and care navigation for a family in crisis.

The Emergency Mental Health Crisis Center is within the Childrens Mercy Adele Hall Emergency Department. This is a new fully staffed zone of the ED including screening assessment triage referral care coordination and shortterm stabilization. The crisis center will include 4 safe rooms 5 consult rooms 5 observation beds and 2 triage rooms.

The Childrens Mercy Division of Emergency Medicine provides the highest level of care to sick and injured children and adolescents in the Kansas City region. The PA will provide autonomous direct patient management with the ability to collaborate with physicians of emergency medicine and psychiatry. Responsibilities include completing thorough history and physical assessments ordering/interpreting lab tests developing differential diagnosis implementing plans of care and coordinating the disposition process. The Behavioral Health Crisis Center PA will be expected to work effectively with the medical team by communicating clearly with families working well with physicians and physician trainees being a resource for nursing staff and collaborating with multiple subspecialties that function in the emergency department.

Physician Assistants II (PAII) provide proficient comprehensive health care services to a defined patient population; obtaining the health history; performing a physical examination diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating and implementing a plan of care; and participating in patient and family education. Each PA II demonstrates commitment to professional leadership and provides leadership for quality & outcomes improvement activities clinical research or evidence based practice and organizational development.
