Department Summary

The Department of Romance Languages located in the School of Global Studies and Languages (College of Arts and Sciences) is a diverse multicultural and plurilingual academic unit that researches and instructs in French Italian Portuguese and Spanish languages and literatures. It is the largest language department at the University of Oregon and frequently intersects with other departments and programs on campus. The department sponsors and supports numerous activities such as lectures film festivals study abroad programs international conferences and community events.

Position Summary

The Department of Romance Languages at the University of Oregon seeks to build a pool of qualified applicants for instructional positions in French Italian Portuguese and Spanish (lower and upperdivision language and culture classes and upperdivision literature culture and linguistics classes). Positions are limitedduration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years. Screening of applications will take place as positions become available and continue until positions are filled.

Potential courses may include first and secondyear language courses thirdyear language and culture courses and with appropriate credentials introductory literature culture or linguistics courses or advanced undergraduate seminars. Positions may also include supervision of multisection language courses.

Minimum Requirements

Masters degree in the relevant Romance language or a related field.
Professionallevel proficiency (ACTFL Superior or equivalent) in both English and the target language.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful collegelevel teaching experience including experience in curriculum development proficiency assessment heritage language teaching and/or service learning.
PhD for those teaching upperdivision literature culture and linguistics courses (course numbers 315 and above).
